Phenomenal experience at this La Farine this past Wednesday with a worker named Bianca.
La Farine has been a personal and family favorite for decades now, shoutout to their apricot soda bread which is *heavenly* toasted with butter.
My mom took me when I was younger, and now I love to take my own daughter there. She’s 2 and has fully accepted her toddler state of angel/lunatic, and Bianca was so incredibly kind to her it made me smile all day. My daughter introduced herself and Bianca talked to directly to her asking her what she wanted, to which my daughter yelled ‘Quiche!’. Bianca was so incredibly patient and kind to me and my daughter (there was no line so no one waiting) and it left me raving to any and all family and friends how wonderful she was.
Toddlers are no joke, and my daughter is picky about who she likes. It was just so wonderful and made my whole day better.

1000 stars for Bianca and all the La Farine workers.
I will absolutely be coming back and could not have been more satisfied. Also shoutout to the ham and cheese quiche which my daughter devoured and wouldn’t let me touch. It even beat out all the chocolate offerings I said she could get.

So good. Are you kidding me. Too good.

Buy a rustic batard here then go buy one at Safeway or Berkeley Bowl or Whole Foods and compare. It’s just so much better here.

They’re known for their fruit tarts and they absolutely live up to the hype – light, creamt custard and fresh, juicy fruits. The red velvet cupcake is a ljttle disappointing: too dry and too bright artificial red. I also got the sour batard when I came back and it was great, nice tangy flavor and chewy crust. They do use white flour so the interior is more soft and less chewy, so that comes down to personal preference.

Despite the charm, the pastries are extremely mediocre. Croissants were very bad (just a touch better than the safeway across the street), tarts were disappointing, all around no good. I expected much more, but they seem to rely on their name to sell rather than quality.

We were walking on College Avenue near Alcatraz Avenue when the aroma coming from La Farine Boulangerie Patisserie carried u inside their bakery. We were immediately impressed by their delicious looking eclairs which were also very reasonably priced and after eating one, we became huge fans. They also have beautiful breads with delicious crusts! While we are based in Manhattan, we are always exploring new bakeries! And we live our latest discovery!

Almond/Frangipane croissant success!

It was a different style than I’m used to. The almond filling was rolled in to the lamination, the edges were slightly caramelized, and the dough moist.

What I tried and would buy again:
Frangipane croissant
Raspberry croissant
Orange current scone
Almond caramel tart
Lemon shortbread

Service was excellent and friendly.
Free 60 min parking in the Safeway parking lot across the street, or paid street parking.

It was very disappointing given the great reviews. I got frangipane but there was no almond paste anywhere, and it was a bit chewy. Cost: $3.75
I also got a morningbun which was crumbly and dry and which left a slight hydrogenated fat feel in my mouth.
It kind of felt like these were day old desserts.

Warning: Bread is addictive. The Fangipane is perfect. It is crunchy and soft at the same time. The flavor is so pleasing. The amount of sweet is just right. Can’t wait to try something else!

It is a 7 min walk from the comic book store to this sweet store. I ate a mini red velvet cupcake and a seasonal pumpkin chocolate chip bread. Both were not overly sweet or moist. Staff was friendly and patient while I took my time deciding what I wanted. Nice clean store too. Parking in downtown Oakland, ha ha, if you are lucky.

Great artisan bread all around. Good place to stop by to get dat bread for the day.

Staff is friendly and super helpful. They answer all your questions if you have any.

They also have tarts and pies that are pretty good as well. Would recommend those if you feeling like a sweet dessert.

Parking isnt the best but if you go down the neighborhoods there are parkable spots if you are willing to walk one block
