This place came up on Too Good To Go app. I’m new to area and was looking to try new places. I drove from Goose Creek to this place at 7:20 pm-ish to pick up my order. The man at the register was like yeah we don’t do that because THTG didn’t pay them money or something. I told him that they show in the app and are available for purchase he didn’t care or offer an apology or anything his attitude was like it was my fault. From the outside I was looking to order something else to takr home for my family.but with his dismissive attitude I didnt want to spend a second long in that restuarant
I warn ya, the pastellitos are not small appetizers It could be 2 meals! They are THICCC. The pictures make them look deceivingly small. Luckily, I didn’t order 2 entrees, because the pastellitos were like a 3rd entree Hearty portion and a great price!! The waitress may ask if you would want the accompanying sauces and toppings on the side or on top. Say “al lado” for on the side – which is how I prefer in order to keep the fried wrapper crispy. My friends and I ordered too much food because we weren’t expecting the generous portions and sides that came with them We loved it!
The food may take some 15-20mins because it is cooked fresh to order. They’ve got great kitchen ventilation despite the small dining area they have, because you do not smell smoke or grease like you would at a KBBQ. Wall-to-wall high stylish booths paired with bar-height chairs and tall tables. Then, regular height tables in the middle; wheelchair accommodating I would believe. Picture menu on the other wall which offer great visuals for customers that are curious about what the dish looks like before ordering. Nicely decorated and clean interior. PAY AT THE COUNTER. I did not know and was waiting.. oops At the time, they did not have a digital payment system that swivels the screen for you to select tip. I didn’t have cash, so I will have to tip next time
When I went, the exterior LED sign was not changed from the prior Hazel & Hanks Market that occupied it before. So, please continue walking past Palomar Tacos to the corner before the THC shop! You will see latin food pictures on the window film.
Free middle parking lot to the side of the restaurant which is more accessible than the scarce number of front parking spaces which has a posted time limit (20mins I think…).
There may be a language barrier when getting orders taken. So, please be kind and understanding. Especially if the younger children of the family come to help translate. As a child of Asian immigrant parents, it was like seeing the Chinese kid help place orders at their parents’ restaurant I understand the struggle and the hardships of a family business. I’ve seen other reviewers talk down about restaurants that happen to have their kids present. It’s someone’s precious FAMILY! Empathize! Don’t post a bad review because of that smh.
I will return to try the caldo de res!! (Sunday special offering)
(This review’s been long overdue, but I just got to posting about it now )
Showed up at the pick up time and was told “we don’t have anything, sorry”
