Choice place for Mexican food. Dinning area was nicely decorated and clean. Ordered the bear plate and chalupa plate. Complimentary chips and salsa were delivered to our table with drinks promptly. Plate orders came in short time. Everything we tasted was delicious and with authentic Mexican flavors. Service was excellent. We very much enjoyed dining here.

Everything was delicious! I got beef enchiladas with the green sauce. The beans have a wonderful smoky taste. And the salsa was amazing too! You’ll be glad you stopped.

A super cute little restaurant that I’m pretty sure was originally a home on a street off the highway in Balmorhea. The name means “The Bear Den” and the inside is decorated with all kinds of bears and other beautiful decor from Mexico. Since it’s a small place, you’re definitely not getting “fast food,” so expect to spend about an hour to have lunch, but it’s worth the wait! We tried the green chile queso (awesome), fried pickles (good, the ranch they came with were awesome though), the chile relleno (solid), the chicken flautas (pretty good), and my daughter had their fried fish basket, which we definitely didn’t expect to see on the menu but she liked!

We were on a road trip and didn’t have as much time to spend here as I’d hoped, but they helped us get in and out as fast as possible with our bellies full, which we really appreciated!

We were on a road trip from Arizona to Houston and we stopped off for something to eat. This place was recommended by the guy at the gas station. And it was a great choice! Although there was only 1 waitress this night she did an amazing job to help everyone and the place was packed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. We had a great experience and we enjoyed our visit.

We had catfish and taco salad. Thickest catfish filet I’ve ever seen. Arrived piping hot. Wife enjoyed her salad as well. Salsa and chips were great. First I’ve heard of stacked enchiladas. I’ll give them a try next time. Pay no attention to the negative reviews – they know not of which they speak.

Love this place in little Balmorhea. Charming atmosphere. Best tamale with balance between masa and shredded beef stuffing. Homemade salsa was yummy with great chips. Refried beans flavorful. Ice tea COLD and brewed right.
Two guests pictured were dressed seasonably well but stiff and hard to talk with.

Promising location considering there wasn’t much open in the small town of Bamorhea! We waited 20 min for our drinks, and addition 30 min for our food.
We ordered chef’s salad, beef quesadillas, grilled fish with veggies and 3 crispy tacos. The fish was the only meal that was good, everything else we below average!!
I got charged $3.50 for a very small side of sour cream, which apparently didn’t come with my tacos! Our waitress kept apologizing for the delay on food and drinks.
The atmosphere is really cute, but the slow service and below average food, was definitely not worth our time and money!! I wanted to stop by and grab something quick instead of cooking in our RV, I regretted that decision!
Also, I ordered a margarita… and it was just terrible!! So stick to something in a bottle like beer so you’re not disappointed.
There was a couple that sat next to us and they had a different server! It took them 30 min to just get greeted and get menus! Very disappointing.

Food was not fresh. Ordered chicken flautas, chicken tacos. Kids Ordered chicken strips and hamburger. All of these plates seemed like they were pulled from a microwave and added extra seasoning. Server was nice, but the food delivery took a long time. Guests, that arrived after us, got their food before us. Our waitress had to be reminded that we were still at the table, and when we asked for drink refills from a different waitress, she brushed us off. Seems like a good pla e for locals, but not visitors. Too expensive for the food served.
