I hated the forced 20% gratuity, though. I never tip if they force a gratuity even if I want to tip more. Also, excited for this place to get a liquor license, they didn’t have one yet when we came but luckily there is a liquor store about 100 feet from the restaurant and we grabbed some wine. My only real complaint about the food was they didn’t get the steak cooked quite right and I think the new waitstaff had trouble keeping track of who ordered what and how they wanted it cooked, really more of an organizational issue than anything else.
Altogether I love this place and what you guys are doing. Looking forward to dining here again.
I had the Filet Di Manzo Porccini for my main and subbed sautéed veggies for the potatoes. It was perfect. The veggies were sautéed to a perfect tenderness while maintaining a crisp mouth feel.
The filet was cooked exactly as ordered and was well complimented by the red wine mushroom sauc. Itt was notoverpoweringg in the least.
The glass of Chianti paired well with my main.
The house made tiramisu was just what was needed to finish off an awesome meal.
The bad:
My friend wanted the shrimp and pomodoro pasta dish. They were out of pomodoro sauce. She asked for plain marinara instead and they were also out of that. How does an Italian restaurant not have any red sauce? She ended up getting the seafood pasta (Spaghetti Scoglio) and it was awful. The shrimp tasted steamed instead of pan fried with the pasta as is typical in Italian cooking. She said it tasted more Asian style in the way it was cooked. One of the clams was not opened (a food poisoning concern) and the mussels were hard, rubbery, and oddly colored. The whole dish had a really off flavor like it was bad.
I had the gnocchi with asparagus and prosciutto in a cream sauce. It looked like soup there was so much sauce. There was maybe 4 tiny pieces of asparagus in the whole thing, and the prosciutto was also chopped into tiny pieces and not much of it. The sauce tasted like jarred Alfredo sauce. It also had a weird / off flavor but not as bad as the seafood.
We asked for the wine menu – there is no wine menu. There are 2 wines by the glass. A Chianti and a Pinot Grigio. The Pinot Grigio was Bollo – a not great quality wine. We did not have it. Not sure about the Chianti.
Lastly there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the check, even though there was only 2 of us. This just rubs me the wrong way – unless it’s a large party, allow your guests to make their own gratuity decisions.
I suspect the folks touting this place know the owner or the chef. I so wanted to love it and would love a good Italian restaurant in Grand Lake, but this simply is not it, and it was very expensive – $120 for 2, for a shared appetizer and 2 entrees which we barely ate. We didn’t even have alcohol.
The most Italian feeling part of it was the Andre Bocelli music playing on loop.
I hope they can get someone in the kitchen who knows Italian food and can actually cook it well, as I really would like to see them succeed.
I told the waiter I was not happy and he laughed at me. I asked for the manager so I would not do this review and they hesitated then kept saying they were coming. No one came. That did not taste like real parmesan cheese and when I ask, is that olive oil, the waiter said I have no idea.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice but felt ripped off by the water.
