I really enjoyed their pasta e fagiolli soup and the calamari as appetizers. The flavors were on point, especially in the soup and marinara sauce. There’s a lot of Italian food in Montclair, and La Couronne really holds its own in this space, the food is delicious. I also enjoyed the spinach with butter and sage raviolis, as well as the pasta with shrimp. The interior vibe of the restaurant isn’t as modern and trendy as some other restaurants but the food speaks for itself – this place is a Montclair staple, with over 20 years in Watchung Plaza. The service was great, and I’m really looking forward to going back and enjoying more on the menu. It was cool to see Yogi Berra’s picture on the wall right by his favorite table- he and his wife used to dine there often and called it “The best in the city!”. If it’s good enough for Yogi, it’s good enough for me!

The food is excellent, but the service is outstanding. They made my friends and I feel welcomed. The food portions were just right, as they don’t have exaggerate to make that a gimmick. Although they don’t serve wine, they knew a place nearby where we could purchase for our party. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Love their food and wait staff is outstanding. I had a mussels and shrimp Special that was delixious and I dare you to find a better shrimp scampi anywhere!! The dining room is a bit dated, but comfy and always clean.

The food was very good. Had a garlic olive oil pasta dish that hit the spot and the haddock in marinara sauce a different time which was very good as well. My complaint is that the last time I was there, a couple came in and sat down after us and had their order taken before mine. It’s not a big deal but it definitely factors in when I’m writing a review. The interior is nice and we sat by the picture of Yogi Berra in the back left corner of the restaurant. Overall, I had a good experience.

We stumbled upon La Curonne by accident when looking for a place for a small family party. We went inside and were immediately surprised by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the attentiveness and politeness of the staff. We had our party there and it was beyond expectations in all areas. We have become regulars here and have never had anything but delicious food and outstanding service. I have recommended it to friends and family and all have experienced the same there. Beyond the delicious food and great service, you’ll notice the pristine linens and glasses and silverware that sparkle. I cannot say how happy we are that we found La Curonne. Try this place, you won’t be disappointed.

I went to this restaurant many, many times in the 2000s and 2010’s. I always appreciated the selection, the specials and the quality of the food. Immediately after Covid, they hiked their prices by about 40%. I thought this might be temporary. I haven’t returned much, but went the other night and prices have increased at least 60% since pre-Covid. The food was still good, though the sole francaise was fishy and uninteresting, and the shrimp arrabiata appetizer was soppy with too little sauce. But there simply is no defense for $12 soups, $12 sides, $14 sorbets. Overall, restaurants have lost the plot with pricing since Covid, disrespecting customers as a whole, but I really expected better from my local Italian restaurant.

A Spectacular Valentines Evening of Fabulous Food, and Outstanding Service.
My wife and I usually do not attempt to go out for diner on a holiday because most times menus are limited or overpriced and service is usually poor because most servers would rather be out celebrating themselves.
Well I found an excellent restaurant with delicious food and outstanding service on a holiday (Valentine’s) The name of this jewel and benchmark restaurant is La Couronne in Montclair.
From the moment we walked into the restaurant we were happily greeted and shown to our table. (we had a 5:30pm reservation).
Immediately after be seated we were given water and a basket of warm Italian bread with butter.
Next our server welcomed us and took our drink order and gave us menus. He also went over the nights specials.
He gave us plenty of time to read the menu, answered our questions and then took our order.
We started with the Fresh Italian Seafood Salad. Loaded with plenty of shrimp, calamari, scallops & celery in an extra virgin olive oil garlic and lemon. Definitely enough for 2 people. we also tried the stuffed mushrooms. Stuffed with breadcrumbs, mozzarella, bacon and served with a marsala wine sauce. 4 good size shrooms to the order and may I say SCRUMPTIOUS!!!
My wife ordered one of the Chefs Special – Fresh Pappardelle Pasta tossed with rock shrimp, mussels, shitake mushrooms, tomatoes and baby spinach in an olive oil, garlic, white wine sauce. Its now 3 days later and she is still talking about how much she enjoyed the dish.
I ordered Veal Funghi, sautéed with Portobello, shitake, and champignon mushrooms and roasted pignoli nuts, served in a Madeira wine sauce. I mopped every drop of sauce with bread that my dish clean clean. Unbelievable how good it was.
We finish with 2 regular coffees, I had coffee ice cream (ice cream is my favorite dessert) and my wife had apple crumb pie with vanilla ice cream. (our server said its made in house. I tried a spoonful and said to wife great choice.
I can’t say enough how good the service is at La Couronne. Every employee work together and as a team. Smiles on everyone’s faces and eager to please every customer.
On your next dinner out please give La Couronne a try. I’m confident you will agree with me, its worth the trip.

We have been dining here for many, many years and have always had outstanding food and service. We like it so much that we have held special occasion dinners here and were so happy that nothing changed after the owner passed some years back.
I need to start by saying that we are never in a rush when dining out. We enjoy a slower pace. That said, our experience last night wasn’t a slower pace, it was terrible, terrible service from the server to the bussing staff to the kitchen. When our entrées finally arrived, over two hours after being seated, two of four dishes were cold, one was lukewarm, one was hot and clearly freshly made. We ordered appetizers and entrées at the same time. The apps were served over an hour after ordering. There was no communication by our server (who never gave us her name), and she wasn’t often present. We had to ask whoever we could flag down, many times without any answer or apology. Many parties who were seated after us, left long before we did. There wasn’t a manager present.
The experience was terribly disappointing, and with so many fantastic restaurants in the Montclair/Bloomfield area, we won’t be going back.
