We decided to head further east on Sunnyside and treat ourselves to an early dinner at La Costita Mexican Restaurant. As we entered the restaurant the aroma from the kitchen welcomed us reassuringly with the scents of delicious food in the making. We were seated into a comfortable booth and noticed the colorful ceramic decor which brought to mind memories of times spent in Puerto Vallarta. The cleanliness of the restaurant is remarkable and the polite greeting by the staff as we settled in made us comfortable and appreciated. We placed our order essentially from the typical combination menu and added a side order of guacamole and unsweetened ice tea with lemon. A server brought a basket of warmed tortilla chips, salsa, and our beverages we enjoyed as we waited for our entrée’s. As we snacked we both remarked on the freshness of the chips, hot and flavorfully spiced salsa, and the dish of fresh guacamole. The iced teas were delicious imparting the nuances of freshly brewed tea accented by a generous slice of lemon. The server brought our entrée advising us that plates were hot. The generous servings of rice, beans on both plates, bordered the fluffy chili relleno, pork tamales covered in a lovely salsa verde, plump chicken enchilada, and a crispy American style taco inviting to the eye and nose. What immediately stood out was the flavorful shredded white meat chicken in the enchilada and taco. The savory pork in the tamales was enhanced by the sauce covering. The chili relleno plump and wrapped beautifully in the egg batter was cheese filled and garden fresh. The delicate flavor of the mashed pinto beans came through nicely while the fluffy rice added a lovely texture and nuanced spiciness. We found ourselves delighting over the accomplished cooking and presentation agreeing that we will return in the near term. Yes, you read this right that we are gushing ever so slightly over a meal of standard Mexican cuisine. The entire dining experience was unexpected, amply rewarding, and deserving of the praise shared in this post. Treat yourself soon to this jewel of a Mexican Restaurant in Happy Valley.

This is the second time we have been to La Costita with my sister who lives on the East side. The food is very good and and the service is exceptional. The decor is very nice for a storefront restaurant. The waitress remembered what I ordered the first time we were there about 8-9 months ago. That has never happened to us before. We got to meet the owner today and I think that is something that has been lost in most restaurants is getting to speak to the people who own the restaurant. My wife and I order Carne Asada in many of the Mexican restaurants we go to and this was one of the best Carne Asada plates I have ever had. The meat was thicker than most Carne Asada and was very moist and not over cooked. The flavor was wonderful. I cannot recommend this little spot more and if you live anywhere on the East Side around the Clackamas area you need to go find this place and I guarantee it will be one of your favorite Mexican restaurants. Oh and the salsa they give you with your chips is the best as it has a great spicey bite to it and is not the usual mild salsa you get everywhere else. Love these guys and you will too!!

I normally don’t post give a bad review unless it’s honestly really needed. But unfortunately this is one of those times. The “street corn” is disgusting and soggy like canned corn it’s foul! I ordered the steak fajitas and the meat looked kinda grey it was tough and the onions and bell peppers were burnt like charcoal ‍♀️ I ordered a drink tequila with lemonade and jalapeño at first I thought dang they poor a stiff drink here but then… I stirred it and realized all the tequila was just floating on top which is a known bar trick they do to make you think it’s strong. Anyhow hate to do this sorta review but just know before you go. Hopefully they resolve these issues the staff was kind the place is nice just food not so great.

It’s been years since we’ve been here. I don’t know how we forgot about it. Still just as tasty as we remembered it to be. Staff is super friendly. Prices reflect the same prices other Mexican restaurants charge. We will definitely be back soon as we are putting La Costita back into our rotation.

We recently visited La Costita Mexican Restaurant and had a fantastic experience. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was delightful, and the prices were reasonable. While we haven’t frequented this place often, every time we’ve visited, the food, service, and ambiance have been consistently outstanding. Upon being seated, we were treated to complimentary salsa and chips, which added to the welcoming feel of the place. We highly recommend it!

La Costita Mexican Restaurant in Happy Valley is one of those true local treasures. This mom-and-pop spot has been part of the community forever, and you can feel the love the moment you walk in. The owners are often there to welcome you, and they genuinely make you feel like family every single time.

And the food… wow. Their new queso birria tacos are to DIE for. The beef is unbelievably tender and melts in your mouth, and the spices are perfectly balanced—rich, savory, and just insanely delicious. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had birria this good anywhere else. If you haven’t tried La Costita yet, you’re missing out. Hands down one of my favorite places to eat! ❤️
