Absolutely love this place – one of the best Mexican restaurants in Jacksonville! The service is outstanding: our server was super friendly and attentive. The food quality is top-notch – everything tastes fresh and authentic, with bold flavors in the fajitas, burrito, and street tacos. Portions are incredibly generous; we end up taking leftovers home because you get so much for your money. And speaking of price, it’s an amazing value – nice Mexican cuisine at reasonable price, Highly recommend – we’ll be back soon!

This review is based on my most recent visit which was Saturday, 2/28.
We went last night and had the worst experience at La Costa we’ve ever had. We came in around 7 and got seated immediately. It was packed as people were there before going to Kickers. Granted, I have never seen it that busy.
We ordered drinks and queso and this is where things went downhill. Our server ended up being the bartender. I had to get up to find her 3 times to ask for another drink, ask to order food, and ask for the bill. We were seemingly forgotten at the table. I also had to get up to ask for silverware after an hour.
When we got our food (quesadilla, Chile Colorado, and shrimp diablo), the latter dishes were cold. We had to send both back, one clearly had just been microwaved. The sauce, which is normally great, seemed smoky and thick. It was barely edible. When we told the waitress, she apologized that we didn’t like it and she said “just don’t tip me.”
She seemed like every request was a task. While the service isn’t normally good, this was much worse than normal. The meal also took over 2 hours, and we were ready to order almost immediately.
We have been to La Costa 10+ times and always enjoyed our meal. I’m hoping that this was a one off, but I’m reluctant to go back, especially Thursday – Saturday when Kickers is open.

This is my favorite casual Mexican restaurant in Jax! Every time I go here, I am impressed with the taste and quality of the food, as well as the portion sizes of the food and specialty margaritas. I frequently have leftovers when I eat here, which is always a plus. I recommend the Chile Colorado, Carne Asada, and burritos. The complimentary chips and salsa are also quite good. If you drink they have a delicious watermelon margarita.
If you’re looking for a solid sit-down Mexican restaurant or need a place to eat and grab a drink at before hitting up Kicker’s, give them a visit!

Visited La Costa for lunch today to celebrate a colleague’s birthday. We were promptly seated and presented with the obligatory chips and salsa. The chips were fresh. The salsa tasted fresh with just the right amount of heat. Our waitress was pleasant and took great care of us. Our food came out quickly and hot! And man was it yummy. We left with our bellies full and happy.
