La Coquille is the finest French Restaurant on Long Island. This place has been an institution on the North Shore for 40 + years. The Poached Artichoke Gratinee is simply divine. The Duck L’Orange is the best duck around. Other highly recommended dishes are the Herb Crusted Rack Of Lamb and La Coquille Salade. The dessert cart speaks for itself! 5 star dining experience all the way!

La Coquille – Review
La Coquille is a charming French bistro known for its fresh seafood and classic French dishes. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal. Highlights include the bouillabaisse and escargots, which are flavorful and well-prepared. The service is friendly and attentive. A great spot for authentic French flavors with a warm vibe.

I ate that liver up like there was no tomorrow. Lobster bisque was great. My fettuccine was decent. There was more vegetables, etc. than pasta on the plate, in my opinion. They had a rolling dessert display, too.

one of the worst meals i’ve had in my life. I came early (a few min after opening) and was seated promptly. the waiter asked me what i wanted to drink and i said i’d answer that as i look through the menu. i was at no point given the drink menu (which i assume they have? but have no idea) and eventually just picked something from a list the waiter rattled off to me. the experience started very lackluster due to this.
i did not get an entree but instead an app and a dessert. the dessert menu was absolutely lacking and did not mention the souffle i ordered. i figured at such an establishment they would at least have a complete menu. my foie gras ordered was beautifully presented but lacked any other substantial quality. as another reviewer said, the foie gras was both burnt and raw and astoundingly, not well cleaned at all – i was surprised to have so much stringiness coming from it, as though the veins had not been cleaned out. the flavor was lacking as well. and only ONE tiny piece of crostini for it? quite a terrible start.
the souffle was ok but i was confused when presented with two. i explained i only wanted one and the waiter told me the order automatically comes with two – again, this is not written anywhere in the menu. the staff was somewhat attentive and i did appreciate that i was in and out within an hour but this place let a LOT to be desired. i will not be returning. i would say perhaps the entrees are better but given that multiple reviews mention overcooked duck i’m not sure.

We have escargot bourguignonne and crab cake as appetizers. For main, we have Caesar salad with grilled chicken, steak, duck a l’orange, shrimp with fettuccine & grilled chicken. My duck was a bit over done but I still liked it. The skin is a bit crisper. The fettuccine tasted the best. It was nice and garlicky. If I’m not mistaken it may be freshly made pasta. My son’s medium rare steak came out over done. Then the 2nd came out within 5 minutes. It was undercooked. Then they had to take it back in the redo. I didn’t try the salad nor the chicken. The creme brulee was great. The chocolate mousse for our anniversary gift was also decent. I just don’t like chocolate made into anything. It just doesn’t taste as good as eating the chocolate alone.

The octopus salad, Sole and the classic duck was delicious. The ambience and service was delightful. The portions were big for me. And lastly their napoleon cake was so light and good. I would come back next time.

This place has some very authentic French cuisine. The French onion soup is absolutely a delight (most other places are too salty, this is just right) with the proper cheese added. Their roast duck and lamb is utterly a delight.

My husband and I had an amazing dinner at La Coquille. Escargots Bourguignonne was so good that we felt like we were dining in France. Baguette was so tasty when you dip in the sauce. I enjoyed warm octopus salad. Packed with flavor and good portion of octopus. Filet of sole en Croute is such a classic dish with touch of beurre blanc. Veal Escalopes was so well cooked and loved pomme purée and chestnut. Loved everything at dessert cart but end up having Napoleon. Service was top notch! We owned restaurants in NYC for over 30 years and my husband is a culinary trained chef, so he doesn’t get impressed easily. He throughly enjoyed the food! When we left, we forgot our bag and the bus person ran out to look for us in parking lot. It shows that staff care about the customers. Had an amazing experience and can’t wait to go back to try other dishes.
