I stopped in randomly as I had a sweet tooth. One of the ladies that worked there helped me and told me how it worked to get the baked goods in the left side of the store. I was happy and ate one of the pastries I bought on the way home. It had cheesecake like filling inside and was okay tasting. Once I got home I began to eat a cake piece until I saw it had mold on the bottom which made me question everything that was in the cases and I threw everything else away. Not sure how long pasties are sitting in there for them to develop mold.

Visiting La Conchita in Hoover instantly brought me back to my trip to Mexico. From the moment I walked in, I felt that familiar sense of warmth and authenticity. The biggest highlight for me was their incredible variety of ice creams — so many unique flavors that reminded me of the ones I enjoyed during my travels. It was such a treat to find that same taste here at home.
Beyond the ice cream, they also have a wide selection of pastries and baked goods that looked just as inviting as they tasted. Everything felt fresh, authentic, and made with care. The staff was another standout — overly friendly, welcoming, and eager to help us as we browsed through all the options. Their patience and enthusiasm really added to the experience.
If you’re looking for a little slice of Mexico in Hoover, La Conchita is definitely worth the visit. It’s a place where you can satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy some genuine hospitality at the same time.

I had purchased a tres leches cake from somewhere else for my son’s birthday and it was terrible. Googled tres leches and La Conchita came up. The strawberry tres leches cake was delicious.

Super cute and *very* clean bakery. They have everything you need for a fun bday party or celebration. You will need to speak Spanish but that’s doable with Google Translate. Type in some key sentences and show to staff. Everyone was kind and welcoming. So many great goodies it was hard to choose. Breads, cookies, empanadas, donuts, cakes, and much more.

Largest selection of Mexican pastries/ baked goods I have ever seen outside Mexico. I guess I have to eat my way through about 80 different baked goods to see if I can truly give 5 stars but this first rating is for the huge selection, the huge and clean space, the friendly employee, the smell and the fact that they also have a full ice cream parlor in the second part of the store.
If the quality holds, this will become the source. I have to see if I can get a roll that I can use for bańh mi to create some deserved Mexican Vietnamese fusion.

I purchased a cake for 30 people, and it was absolutely delicious. The dough was wonderfully moist and flavorful. I’ll definitely be back for more.

I ordered my wedding cake in this place. Before I never had an issue, the bread is excellent and the people are usually nice. But for my wedding I dealt with a lady (not the regular polite girl behind the counter) that changed the initial price accorded, and the cake was supposed to arrive at 3:30 and ended up arriving at around 5. It didn’t include boxes for after party take away and they didn’t tell me the supports were supposed to be returned until the next day. Luckily we saved them.
I’m giving 3 stars because despite the inconvenients, the cake was delicious and everything I wanted. However as it was a very hot weather that day, the tres leches started to melt and we had to cut it as soon as we saw it.
