I decided to try a new place for a skirt steak ($27.00). Ordered my usual “medium rare” temperature. I literally stressed that temperature to the server, after she asked if I wanted it well done. I emphasized, “no — the complete opposite.” I even added, please make sure it is not overcooked. What followed must have been a joke. It was the most overcooked steak I have ever been served. I uploaded pictures of the steak to ChatGTP, which correctly stated as follows:

“The meat shown in the photos is a skirt steak, identifiable by its long, thin cut and visible grain. Based on its uniformly brown-gray interior, dry texture, and lack of any pink or red, it was cooked to a well-done temperature, likely 160°F (71°C) or higher. The firmness of the meat and the heavy exterior sear further confirm that this skirt steak was cooked well beyond medium, placing it clearly in the well-done range.”

The server stated that the kitchen will recook me a new skirt steak (“medium rare”), but per ChatGTP again:

“Compared to the first skirt steak, the second steak in the new photo appears less overcooked, showing a slightly more moist surface and a lighter brown coloration. However, it still lacks visible pink and continues to present as well-done (approximately 160°F / 71°C or higher). The first steak is noticeably darker, drier, and more charred, indicating it was cooked even further past well-done, closer to very well-done, with a tougher texture and more dehydration. Both are skirt steaks, but the first is clearly more overcooked, while the second — though still well-done — shows a somewhat better moisture level and less charring.”

Sadly, the restaurant then had the audacity to nearly double-charge me for the skirt steak. When I asked to see the actual receipt, I asked, why “$47.00” for the steak (especially given how small it was). The server explained they also charged me for the second steak. Wow.

Avoid this restaurant; and if you want skirt steak, stick to Las Palmas Restaurant, which is less than one (1) block away (at 6153 Bergenline Avenue). For $42.00 at Las Palmas, you will get more than double the size of the flimsy steak they sell and overcook at La Concepcion. See Las Palmas for their “Famous Signature Skirt Steak (Churrasco) on the grill” and completely avoid this place.

Visiting NYC and staying in WNY. This place was close by where we were staying and looked good, so we gave it a try. The prices are unbeatable and the food is so delicious. It was so good that we came two days in a row. The server was bilingual and very polite. Definitely give this place a try!

LA CONCEPCION Bakery & Restaurant offers delicious baked goods and authentic dishes that keep you coming back for more. The pastries are fresh, flaky, and perfectly sweet, while the savory meals are full of flavor. A cozy spot that feels like a little taste of home!
