I really enjoyed the $5 Margarita promo on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at La Colonia. On my first visit, the steak taco salad was great, though my friend and I noticed the meat was a bit salty. The waitress was very attentive and kind—even after we paid the bill, she kept checking on us.
However, during my second visit, the food was a bit cold and the portions weren’t as generous as the first time. The service was also rushed; we had barely finished eating when the waitress brought the check without us asking. I was surprised because the service this time was nothing like the excellent experience I had before.

I went to La Colonia with two family members. I ordered the enchiladas without sour cream. It came out with sour cream on top of all 3. So the waitress took it back and the second time I immediately noticed how flat looking each tortilla was. I opened each one and there was a small scoop of meat on each one. It wasn’t hot so you could tell it was precooked already.I has to go find the manager to show her. I informed the waitress and she said because they usually make it on corn tortillas which are smaller since I ordered flour tortillas it may look that way. I said I am pretty sure it’s more than these on the corn tortillas as well. She offered to bring me more meat but at this point I didn’t trust anything else coming out the kitchen. I’ve had this meal at many places & she agreed there was a small amount of meat. I went to look for the manager to show her and was offered a change to choose something else. At this point my food was cold and I believe they gave me my same plate with the same rice on it. It wasn’t very tasty at all and I had to ask for more red sauce because of the small amount on my enchiladas. I didn’t care for the taste. I asked if I could get a discount and was told the owner offered me a free drink (I had a Fanta) and 20% off my $15 meal. The drink tasted flat anyway but Really? I don’t plan to return. We were a party of 3 although the receipt has guest count 2.

I’ve ordered take out and have eaten here several times, and I will say the food is always consistent. Good restaurant to satisfy your Mexican cuisine cravings. It’s usually pretty slow inside but the food is above average and I do recommend it if you’re in the Romeoville area. Prices are pretty fair for the portion sizes and you’ll definitely be full once you’re done.

The scary berry Halloween drink was awesome. Carne a la tampiquena was soft and everything was delishes. Try the potato tacos, crispy tacos on the outside and mashed soft potato on the inside.

Pozole was good, not great. Steak burrito was very good, had a good amount of meat and was flavorful. Had to share limes as they didn’t come with each dish. Michelada was a bit small, but tasteful as well. Service was ok, a bit slow for not having many tables filled (only 2). We’ll be back to try other menu items and see if it improves.
