Reviews
We were amazed with this restaurant. It seems to be a neighborhood restaurant. The service was thoughtful and attentive. 10/10
What we ate:
The AMAZING BRANZINO w/pickled onions was stellar! Now, before we ordered I took the liberty to google the reviews for the dishes…EVERYONE kept talking/RAVING about the Cauliflower & Brussel Sprouts (neither are my favorite veggie)
I stand corrected…they were outstanding!! The flavor of the cauliflower was INSANE! I couldn’t believe what I was tasting. The Brussels were in a game of their own…#Winning!
My Bestie had the Shrimp Scampi that was also awesome!!! The manager, Ryan came over to the table…we had to rave about the food and service…Like I said, THANK THE KITCHEN for the entire meal…1000 Stars!!!
We will be back and I am already looking forward to it…Thank you to the Wonderful Staff (Isha & Mgr Ryan..I forgot the other waitress name, but Thanks Sis!)
BEST PART:
– Watching the employees work well as a team.
– Ambiance
WHO I’D RECOMMEND LA COLLINA FOR:
– Dates
– Holiday celebrations, anniversaries
– Friend dates
– Groups
– Solo individual (nice individual seating areas and some small tables for one)
– Tourists who want to experience quality Italian dining in DC without breaking the bank
AMBIANCE:
– Music is set low, so you don’t have to yell to chat w your dining partner or spit food into their ears so they can hear you.
– Lighting is well-done, soft and comfortable, yet not so dim that you need to use a flashlight for your menu.
Rosa was lovely. Had it not been for her warm welcome and smiling energy, I would not have sat down to try Collina and learn that it’s a place worth recommending to everyone who visits Eastern Market.
I felt welcome, valued as a patron, and well-treated by all members of staff, from those who brought my waters to other waiters to the manager. As a minority, I am sensitive to being treated poorly due to racist environments I’ve been in, in areas of the south and the New England region. I felt very comfortable at La Collina.
They sell espressos and pastries during Eastern Market weekend hours in the summer; very cute outdoor seating area. Ideal place to meet neighbors on weekends.
FOOD
The cacio e pepe was very watery / buttery. My experience w the dish in Italy was more sticky and pungent in flavor. Perhaps this is La Collina’s style, but I was expecting it to be more pecorino cheesy/peppery than watery.
For the salt-sensitive — One of the other Google reviewers complained that this dish was too salty, so I requested it unsalted. The kitchen served a regular version then realized they didn’t provide me the dish unsalted and promptly fixed it, so I was able to try both. The regular version was really not that salty, so don’t worry about that other review’s negative take on La Collina’s food. Of course, the unsalted version, was notably better to me, but I understand most Americans do enjoy their salt intake.
Second: the restaurant!!! Everything was delicious and the staff was lovely and helpful and respectful and great. : ) A friend and I got the $40 Restaurant Week deal, and it was excellent. Highly recommend, definitely wanna come back soon.
