My husband and I went to La Cocina Mexican Restaurant last week and found a hidden gem! The was WAS Authentic just as advertised. We enjoyed our meal and left full. I had the shrimp chimichanga and my husband ordered the beef enchilada meal. Very tasty, mole sauce was so good! Thank you La Cocina for a good food experience.

Came in for dinner on a busy Saturday night and had a very short wait. Nice atmosphere and great service.
We enjoyed the cheese dip and excellent salsa. (They brought us extra chips at no charge) We enjoyed a chimichanga and enchiladas. Excellent! We’ll be back!

Stopped in for an early dinner. Hubby and I shared the Steak, Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas. They brought out chips and salsa while we waited for our meal. Apparently, if you ask for more chips, they charge you and don’t tell you and you don’t get more salsa. The salsa was tasty. The chips were thicker than I like, but that’s just a personal preference. They were pretty generous with the meat, but only 4 tortillas. We would have asked for more, but expected that to be an up charge so we took the extra meat home. We asked about shredded cheese, but that was also an up charge. The food was good enough, but I doubt that we’ll return.

We decided to try a Mexican restaurant this weekend. This brought us to La Cocina, a colorful place right on US1. We found ample free parking in the lot, and I liked the eclectic building.
Inside, we were quickly seated. We were promptly served chips and salsa, which were crispy and delicious.
My girlfriend decided to eat light because she enjoyed too many chips. She ordered the yellow rice, and loved it. I ordered the steak tacos. The tacos came very fresh and stocked with cheese and steak. We decided to skip the desert because we were filled. The bill was reasonable, and we both thought we would visit here again when we were in the Mexican food mood.

Enjoyed a great meal with family (7) people. It was fun watching my dad play peek a boo with my niece as we were waiting for our food to come. The wait wasn’t long but we were making the most of it. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

I don’t normally do this but this was the worst restaurant my husband and I have been to in a while. Paid $18 a plate for food that was lukewarm and the cheese in my quesadilla was not even melted. Also…FEES: your first basket of chips and salsa is free but after that…fee. There is an extra fee to use a debit/credit card. 20% gratuity automatically added for parties of 5 or more. Ridiculous.

If you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food in St. Augustine, La Cocina Mexican Restaurant is an absolute gem. Every time we dine here, it feels less like going out to eat and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.
My aunt lives nearby, and whenever we come in, the staff treats us like family — remembered, cared for, and genuinely happy to see us. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it’s felt from the moment you walk through the door. The service is by far incredible: warm, attentive, and heartfelt without ever feeling rushed.
And the food is outstanding. Every dish is full of rich, authentic flavor and clearly made with love. You can feel the pride behind every plate that comes out of the kitchen, and it shows in both the quality and consistency of the meals.
La Cocina is more than just a restaurant. It’s a place where amazing food, exceptional service, and genuine connection come together. Whether you’re a local or visiting St. Augustine, this spot is a must. You’ll keep coming back not just for the food, but for how they make you feel.

We have been wanting to come here for a long time. We just got around to it. And we’re so glad that we did. We have been looking for good, authentic, and delicious Mexican cuisine for almost 5 years and we finally found it! Not only is the location super cute and quaint, but the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. The drinks were also really good. And the bill was actually such a surprise. Even though we saw the prices going in, we just assumed it would be more than it came out to be. You really can ask for better service or a better meal especially at this price. We have found one of our new favorite restaurants and we’ll definitely be coming back sooner than later. If you’re looking for really good authentic Mexican cuisine, this is where you want to go!

The flavors of Mexican food are my favorite to eat. Unfortunately, they are extremely time consuming to prepare at home: peeling and chopping fresh vegetables, making sauces, then preparing your recipe, cooking fresh tortilla chips, and making flan for dessert. I’ve done so. Once. I was too exhausted afterwards to eat. Fortunately, there is La Cocina Mexican Restaurant in St. Augustine.
The food is prepared on-site from top quality ingredients. My steak burrito had deliciously seasoned good quality meat and was generously filled with pieces large enough to identify as beef. The tortilla chips arrived hot, crisp, and perfectly salted.
If heat is your thing, request the house-prepared hot chili sauce. Fire and flavor. The best combination.
My companion enjoyed red snapper, which was fresh, seasoned to enhance the fish, not overpower it. For dessert, we both enjoyed the flan. Mmm. That flan…

We just ate dinner at La Cocina. Really delicious food! We ordered burritos and chimichangas and the shredded chicken and steak were both super flavorful, tender, and juicy! Service was friendly and it was evident the staff was working hard to put out good food! The cheese dip was also delicious. We would definitely go back for more! While the prices are a little high, they are similar to most other places these days and the quality and taste made up for it!
