Open all the Mexican and TexMex restaurants you want, but La Cocina is still the king of Mexican cuisine in the city. Everything on the menu I’ve tasted over the decade I’ve eaten here is delicious. I travel all over the country and this place has the best salsa in the country. They remember their regulars and the greeting is always warm and friendly. My go-to is the burrito tapatio with grilled chicken. The prices have stayed pretty steady over time. It’s usually my first or second food stop when I come back home.

Cozy little place definitely not a big chain. The food is prepared with love and served with the same. This is not your fair paced run and gun burrito shop. This is the real deal. I gave 3 star for atmosphere so guest would know what to expect. Very clean and welcoming.

Birria is so flavorful, and the Borracho steak is delicious as well. Or Pollo Cancun if you like chicken and shrimp and mushrooms. The best part? You can customize your sides to your liking! I prefer frijoles charros (think of it as the Hispanic version of red beans, rice and sausage) and calabasitas (grilled zucchini and corn-you won’t be disappointed!!) instead of the traditional rice and refried beans.

I haven’t had La Cocina in a very long while. I don’t even remember what I had. Mexican food is not one of my favorite foods but I do like it. I know ala Cocina has a pretty good reputation.
I scanned the online menu and it didn’t take me long to find the birria tacos. It came with two sides. I decided to try the charro beans and Spanish rice.
The email I received said my wait would be about 20 minutes. I drove to the restaurant and waited in my car for a bit.
When I walked in the restaurant there was someone attending to some tables. The was a sign to ring the bell to get some service but the waitress saw me. I told her that I had an online order and within a few minutes my food was ready.
When I got home I noticed there was chips and salsa in my bag as well as the other items I ordered. I didn’t realize my meal came with chips and salsa. I guess that’s not out of the ordinary but it was a pleasant surprise. Anyway I started with the rice and then with the beans. There was nothing really special with the rice but I don’t think I’ve had charro beans. They seem to be beans with what seemed like vienna sausage. It didn’t taste bad. I really didn’t know what to expect.
On the to birria tacos. The definite star of the show. Being that my food was take out there was some sogginess to the taco shell but the tacos held up pretty good. I dipped the first taco in the consommé (yes, I googled it). It was very savory and the meat was tender. I don’t eat a lot of authentic Mexican food but I know what good food tastes like. I definitely would recommend the birria tacos from La Cocina.

Went here on a friend’s recommendation and were not disappointed! Started w/chips & salsa (chips were fresh & crisp and the salsa was also fresh & delicious, one of the best I’ve ever had!). We had margaritas w/our meal & they too were delicious. My wife got the chicken fajita, which was a pretty large portion, and I got the 3 hard-shell beef plate (I was craving a taco (I also usually try the tacos first at a new place) and they were some of the best tacos I’ve had, they were fantastic! (My new place to go when I want a taco!) loaded w/fresh tomatoes and lettuce, with cheese and the seasoned beef was outstanding! Put some of their salsa on there and it was devine! I can’t rave enough about the salsa and tacos! I’m looking forward to trying the torta, the soft-shell tacos, and the street tacos. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend it!

I came here based on a recommendation from my husband’s friend. The place is small, and the waitress seemed inattentive when I was explaining what I needed. The prices differ from what I saw online, and while the food is very tasty, the portions are quite small. The place was overcrowded, and they even charged $3 for a tiny bit of lettuce. Despite the delicious flavor, I was annoyed that they didn’t provide a detailed receipt. We ordered two waters and fajitas for two, which the menu listed at $26, yet we ended up paying $45 just for the fajitas and waters. When it was time to pay, my husband decided not to argue, so we just paid and left. The rice, beans, and food portions were small, but truly delicious. However, we won’t be returning due to the high prices and tiny servings.

Haven’t eaten at this location in years and the food was still just as wonderful as before. If you haven’t ever tried the Torta Tampequena ….DO IT!!!( it’s a sandwich.. a big one)

Food quality has been better. It was really busy and there was only 2 people working to run the register, wait tables and work drive thru so the customer service was stressed.

Wife and I dropped in for a quick bite. Pleasantly surprised. LA Cocina has a low key laid back atmosphere reminiscent of Midwest cantina, pleasant and above par service, and the food was well worth the low prices. Highly recommended, we will be back.
