Food: 4/5 (Very good food!)
Service: 4/5 (Kind and accommodating staff)
Atmosphere: 3/5 (okay vibe)

Awesome experience at La Chula Mexican Market and Restaurant! Located in Watervliet, Michigan, this restaurant has some awesome food, a small Mexican market area, and awesome staff. I’m looking forward to trying other menu items!

The food was amazing! The only ding here was that the food was submerged in oil. I had the fried burrito and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa! The burrito was off the chain!! I also enjoyed the size of the portions.

The service was great. The staff was kind and helped me through the menu. They also kept offering water, my favorite!

The atmosphere needs a little working on as it was okay. I love the culture of the restaurant, though!

Great experience at La Chula Mexican Market!

I ordered the steak burrito, my daughter ordered the vegetarian which she thought was excellent. For me the steak was over spiced and dry, is it a good value not in my eye but in today’s prices what are good values

90% of the time they will forget your rice and beans! It doesn’t matter if you order online or over the phone or directly to their face. They will absolutely forget the rice and beans I believe they do this on purpose. No longer eating here tired of getting scammed

Went for lunch and ordered the taco dinner, with beef (asada), rice and beans. Tacos were good but not seasoned as well as some I had the day before from them. The meat seemed a bit drier as well. The rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly, refried beans were bland, the red sauce for the tacos was delicious, not too spicy but packed with depth of flavor. Didn’t care for the green sauce, too acidic for me. The sauce for the chips was good and the chips were crispy. Ordered 2 chicken tamales as well. One was seasoned well, the other was bland. Not sure if these were two different batches but they did not taste the same. Reasonably priced except the tacos ($3 each). Clean restroom. More of a take out place than dining in. Only drinks available are bottled drinks. Can get 4 stars if the food is consistently seasoned well, fountain drinks are available and prices for tacos are more in line with restaurants in the area.

We are visiting the area and were unsure where to eat and this place was definitely a great choice. The food is fresh, made to order, with authentic ingredients. The salsa was the absolute best, and everything was flavorful. The restaurant is also generous with the portions and ingredients used. I also appreciated the vegetarian and fish options!

La Chula Mexican Market in Watervliet is a hidden gem for fans of authentic Mexican cuisine. Located at 349 N Main St, it combines a small restaurant with a grocery market, making it a one-stop spot for both dining and picking up Mexican staples. The family-run atmosphere is warm and welcoming, reflecting the care put into both the food and the service.

I had a terrible experience with them. I went there to buy 19 tacos and a quesadilla — they only gave me 15 of them. I got charged $85 total. I would recommend others to check your order beforehand, unless you want to be shorted on your food.

When you first walk in, there is no one to greet you…no music playing, not a single customer in sight. When someone does greet you, it seems as though you’re bothering them. While I was trying to place my order, I was interrupted by some woman, leaving the place, yelling “¡Ayuda me¡” to who I assume was her kid, that was trying to take my order. After ordering, we sat at the tables and waited…The waiter brought us some chips and salsa, which all three of our party (2 young adults and Adult) notes that the salsa tasted off. We refused to eat any more of it. Chef Mic was on call today, as we heard the microwave ding three times and the food was out at the table within 5 minutes of ordering. My kids ordered steak tacos. The steak on the tacos was dry and lukewarm, lacking any seasoning. I had the wet burrito…it was cold cold. The sauce on top was watery and cold, the steak was cold, the cheese inside wasn’t even melted and the tortilla was tough and stale. The beans were the standard prepared beans out of a can. The kicker was the rice, the rice was dry and wet at the same time, and as you can see in the picture, very broken and looked like it had been cycled for a few days in the warming tray. I barely ate 4 bites of the burrito. Probably the worst “Mexican” food we’ve ever had. Zero chance of returning as it wasn’t just a one item issue, it was a terrible experience in the whole.

The carnitas mexican tacos were ok, but a bit salty. The rice was bland. The sauces were spicy.
