La Chanh is another solid Vietnamese spot along Victoria Street with a wide range of dishes. We tried the pho and the vermicelli bowl.
The pho had a light, delicious beef stock with chicken — no heavy MSG or oily feel like some other spots on the street. The noodles were okay in texture, and the chicken was cooked nicely.
The vermicelli bowl was refreshing, and the chicken was cooked well. We also added a side of pork, which I felt could’ve been slightly more charred to get that smoky flavour that many places do.
Overall, a decent experience and another good option along Victoria Street.

The portion size are generally ok. Price is a bit varied. The diced beef rice with tomato rice cost $5 more compared to plain rice. Not sure if it’s worth it. Also, the portoion of beef cubes are too small for a $19 dish. The taste is average.

We love this restaurant so much, sometimes we go multiple times in one week. The food is incredible, always fresh and delicious. Don’t listen to the other reviews mentioning portion size, the portions are more than generous and represent great value for money.
The owners and staff are so friendly and accommodating, they can always fit our large family in at short notice.
Get the housemade prawn crackers, crispy chicken with noodles (ask for the soup on the side), and all the vermicelli dishes are delicious too. Cannot recommend highly enough. The best Vietnamese on Victoria St.

I have been going to La Chanh since it opened and it remains one of the best restaurants in Melbourne. There’s one particularly amazing dish: the chicken noodles (dry). They come with a small bowl of umami rich broth and the most delicious chili sauce – it’s a simple dish done totally right. Maggie, the owner, is also an amazing person and i love catching up with her every time i come in! The salt and pepper tofu is also amazing.

One of the many Vietnamese restaurants along this stretch of the road in Richmond. The menu is quite extensive ranging from noodle soup to main dishes too. The dry combination Hu Tieu is generous in portion but lacking the sauce that combines the dish into one. The meat slices are also a little dry. The shrimp noodle soup we never saw in other shops so we decided to try. Unfortunately it didn’t have that depth shrimp flavour in the broth. The shrimp paste sausage reminds me of fishcake tempura in Taiwan.

The restaurant is very clean, the staff is nice and friendly. Service is efficient. A wide selection of Vietnamese food on offer. And all very well cooked, nicely balanced and tasty. However, portion is on the smaller end of scale yet the price is more than the average on Victoria St.
