It’s a pretty cheap and very casual restaurant, which can be both a good and a bad thing. They have an extensive Mexican menu and no-frills, dingy dining area inside a little market. The food can be a bit slow, but the serving sizes are good. I’ve had the fajitas here before which is a tasty and filling dish, though the quality isn’t as well-made as other places. They also didn’t follow some of the special requests I made not to have certain ingredients included like mushrooms. I probably wouldn’t eat here again unless I got takeout, and I believe there’s better options for affordable Mexican food around the area.

There’s something about a restaurant located inside a grocery/convenience store that gets my attention. They are usually pretty good and worth a try. I’m glad that I came here as the food is great and the prices are also reasonable. I enjoyed my birria soup and assortment of tacos. The portion size and quality of flavors were all there. The interior is a bit small, but that’s ok. They also have some outdoor seating. Overall, a place I would come back to very soon.

Picked up a Breakfast Burrito here. The menu is in the back room and you put int your order at the register by the front door. Food was tasty and looked fresh. Has small parking lot with seating in backroom and on outside by front door. Okay place to grab a bite.

This tiny restaurant is hidden in a small square beside all the hoopla of Cedar Mill crossings. You enter into a store selling a lot of Mexican snacks – chips, candy, drinks etc. Further in is a small restaurant with 6-7 tables. The kitchen looks really big though and the menu is pretty big too. You place your order at the store front check-out and then take a seat in the restaurant out back. You bus your own tables. We ordered some tacos and flautas de Papa. Tacos were delicious. The beans and rice that came with the flautas were some of the best I’ve ever had. Place is clean, service is quick. I’m going to spread word about them for sure.

2025 update: so sad I need to downgrade La Chabelita from a good hidden gem to a flat out avoid! It has gotten worse the last few times I’ve been in last year.
The Horchata was spoiled or soured or was lacking the sugar.
The food too 40 minutes to come out and it was not coordinated at all.
The al pastor was dry, chewy, and even smaller than normal street taco size.
The Fish taco was bland on a stale flour tortilla.
The floor of the eating area was swarming with Ants! They were crawling up our legs.
I hope they can turn it around again, but as of 2025 I DO NOT Recommend!
Orig 2022 review when it was good: Just wish they were allowed to serve the beer along with delicious food.

Orders via Uber Eats as they had a 4.7 star. The food was TERRIBLE. I ordered steak fajitas which are advertised as having onion, peppers and mushrooms (what?), comes with rice, beans, pico, sour cream and lettuce. Fajitas are typically flavorful and the meat cut into strips. I was given two whole pieces of meat, with absolutely no seasoning on them and not cut up. Some grilled onions on top but no peppers which is the base of fajitas. That’s it. I did ask for no mushrooms, so they got that right. I was given some beans but no rice, no sour cream, no pico (but the two slices of tomato is adequate replacement right?), a ton of lettuce with two pieces of raw onion. Oh and they ask if you want corn or flour tortillas and I asked for flour and got corn.
I also ordered Quesabirrias tacos, they had some flavor but really bland all around. They gave me way too much broth too. I haven’t tried the chicken quesadilla I ordered yet, they didn’t bother to cut that into pieces or provide any silverware other than a spoon. Skip this place.

Don’t order from DoorDash from this place. I only got two tiny sauces when I ordered 5 tacos what a joke!

Crowded little market with taqueria at the back. Menu is at the back counter, order and pay at the front counter, go back to the rear counter for your food? All the tables were up and I stood about awkwardly waiting for my food and getting in people’s way. Prices didn’t match the menu, and I don’t think their kitchen was up because I waited way longer than any to go breakfast item should rightly take. Not impressed with service but I’ll cut some slack because the huevos rancheros la Michocoan were great and I was there pretty early.

10/10. Just got a cali burrito this morning after a long bike ride. Kind employees and amazing food.
Coming from LA, this is the best Mexican food I have found in Portland since being here 3 years. I knew it would be a great spot when I saw it was in a mini market. Reminds me of home. SO GOOD!
Highly recommend!
