Our Chief Chef, Santi, comes to La Casa del Cocinero from the small town of Tala in Guadalajara, Mexico, where the roots of his passion for cooking first took hold. As a boy, Santi began cooking at his parent’s side. During his teens, Santi helped his mother prepare and sell traditional meals from their home. Together, they made delicious tamales, tacos, and Guadalajara’s famous Carne En Su Jugo. As he grew older, Santi worked alongside his father in his seafood restaurants, gaining the experience that would form the foundation of many of the fabulous meals he now prepares for you, our customers. All dishes are made to order and, while it might take a little longer, trust us when we say, it’s worth the wait.
Easygoing little local joint with a lengthy south-of-the-border menu, margaritas & full bar.

Unfortunately, the customer service fell short. When we arrived, the entrance area gives the impression to wait to be seated, yet, no one was there to assist. A gentleman eventually noticed us, kindly directed us to our table, and brought our drinks, chips, and salsa. Up to that point, things seemed promising.
After that, however, the experience kept getting worse. The restaurant had about 5 tables over all with families. It was pretty slow. We waited at least 15 mins or so with our menus open in front of us, yet no one came by to take our order. There were several servers that walked by and an older woman who seemed to be the owner, but not one person stopped to check if we had been helped or to simply ask, “Are you ready to order?”
The final straw was when a couple who arrived way after us were seated, received their drinks and chips, and had their order taken, while we continued waiting. At that point, we decided to leave. We let the gentleman who seated us know we hadn’t been helped and wanted to pay for our drinks. He kindly comped them, which we appreciated, but by then the overall experience was very disappointing.
This restaurant clearly has potential, but the staff would benefit from customer service training and stronger attention to guests. In today’s competitive environment, good service is what keeps customers coming back. A little awareness and care would go a long way here.
First, while prices have gone up a lot, I understand that given the current economy. That alone wouldn’t impact my rating much if everything else was still great. Unfortunately, the service lately has been downright terrible. We seem to consistently get the same waitress, and she barely acknowledges us unless she’s dropping off our food (which this time took nearly 45 minutes). We even ran a little experiment—my wife tried to flag her down multiple times with no luck, and it took me practically jumping up and waving before she finally came over. When she did, it felt like we were inconveniencing her, and her attitude made it clear she wasn’t happy to help.
To make matters worse, we were there celebrating my wife’s birthday and both of us ordered the chile verde (now much pricier than it used to be). The dish tasted okay, but within hours of getting home, we both became very ill. I called the restaurant to inform them, and was told someone would get back to me, but we’re still waiting for a response.
We’ve been loyal customers for years—even following the restaurant when they changed locations. At this point, I’m not sure what changed, but I sincerely hope the owners will reach out and address these issues. Right now, I can’t say I’d recommend this place, which is very disappointing after so many good years.

I usually pre judge a Mexican restaurant on its chips and salsa. If the chips are fresh and the salsa is good, what’s to follow is usually and almost always just as good. If not well, you know the rest.
Im usually right. The salsa rojo (red) and Verde (green) are both very good, and both have a kick. The rojo has a smokey bold and spicy flavor, whereas the green has a fresh, citrus flavor with a bite that gets you reaching for your drink. Don’t worry, you won’t die. Lol
I had the menudo and homemade flower tortillas. Both were perfect. The menudo was fresh with the perfect balance of hominy and tripe. The hommade flour tortillas were thin and warm fresh off the coral.
My wife had the chile relleno, rice and beans, and flour tortillas. She gave this dish a thumbs up.
The granddaughter had the kids’ breakfast. Egg, two pieces of bacon, potatoes, and two of some of the best pancakes I’ve ever tried. Yes, I picked off her plate. She, too, gave this dish a thumbs up.
If you’re looking for good, really good food, you must stop in. You will not regret it.
Cheers.
Service was quick and attentive.
Will be back soon to try the rest of the menu
