I decided to try this place out as it was very convenient from the office and was also curious. I ordered food to go as I didn’t have time to sit and enjoy my meal there. I ordered the Casados Pura Vida with beef. It was their rice plate combo that included rice, beans, green salad, fried sweet plantains and beef. I have to admit that the star of the dish for me was their green salad. It was very nice and refreshing. The dressing they used was excellent as it gave it this taste profile that I really enjoyed. The beef was also flavorful and good.

This spot is absolutely incredible every single time. Note- they moved from Pinestreet food court to right across the street!! The chicken casado and the Arroz con pollo are insanely delicious- definitely get extra fried plantains and the creamy green sauce (I put it on everything). I found this spot last year and went three times in one week. I am beyond excited they’ve opened their own restaurant and can’t wait to go back to keep supporting!! Also- everyone that works there is beyond sweet and super lovely.

This place deserves way more than four stars—I’m honestly offended it doesn’t have five already. Let’s start with the service. The owner didn’t just hand me a menu… he gave me a full tour, history lesson, and flavor forecast. He explained every dish with so much passion that I felt like I had just been adopted into the family.
Now the food… WOW. The rice and beans were so good I considered ordering a second plate “for later” (and by later, I mean immediately). The steak was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and cooked like it knew exactly what it was supposed to do. And the portions? Let’s just say I left full, happy, and slightly struggling to walk.
On top of all that, it’s super affordable. Amazing food, amazing people, and amazing vibes. Do yourself a favor and eat here—you won’t regret it (unless you regret not ordering more).

I live in costa rica 6 months our of the year so ive been looking for a typical costa rician restaurant in Portland because I miss the food so much. I HAVE FINALLY FOUND THAT PLACE!!
The food taste so good. Typical home cooked costa rician food. Just what you would get if you went to a little Restaurant/cafeteria in costa rica.
The flavors were amazing. Very well prepared. Large portions. Quick service.

Absolutely delicious meal!! I love supporting this incredibly sweet, family owned business! Quick walk from the Saturday market and perfect food for any weather! Spend your money with these fine people and you won’t be disappointed! The cheese empanadas were HUGE and have the most unbelievable cheese pull! Yum x1000!

Was my first time eating here. It can be found within the Pine Street Market. I ordered the Casados with chicken. The chicken was tender, juicy, and seasoned well. The rice was delicious and the salad was too. The beans were delicious and seasoned well. The plantains were soft and firm. All around delicious dish. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. I will be back to try out more dishes in the future.

I ordered the chicken casado, it was perfect! Chicken was flavorful and so tasty, black beans and the salad were the best accompaniment, and the plantains were sweet. Felt like a whole, balanced meal. Plus I was greeted warmly and served right away. This is a cute, under the radar place tucked into a food hall.

We have been meaning to try this restaurant for months and finally did. OMG!!! This is the most authentic Costa Rican food we have found in the States. The owners prepare EVERYTHING FRESH and they have some fun plans for the future of the restaurant. Gallo Pinto is life! Pura Vida ❤️
