Reviews
One thing that felt a little odd was that some of the prices on the menu were scribbled out. I had seen other reviews mentioning discrepancies between menu prices and what they were charged, so that caught my attention. That said, for four entrées and three drinks, our total was about $80, which seemed fair, so I don’t believe we were overcharged.
Not a bad experience overall, just average.
I stopped by La Carreta and found out they had both flan and churros. So I ordered them both to go. I can only give the food 5/10. The flan had a wonderfully rich caramel flavor and was very creamy. However, it seemed to have a very thick, almost tough, skin on the bottom. And I was not impressed in the least with the churros. Temperature wise they were warm at best after only walking 150 feet to the truck. The inside texture was grainy and gritty and it reminded me of a cheap store-bought item that had been pulled from the freezer and warmed slightly in the oven.
Now, I will admit that I am a churros snob. When you’ve had churros that you watched Abuela drop into the grease and then pull them out and cover them in cinnamon sugar so fast that a portion of the sugar almost caramelizes, it’s hard to accept anything less.
The bathroom was very clean, well stocked and decorated nicely. The staff was polite and helpful.
I think I’m going to go back and order a full meal instead of just dessert to go. I think I may skip dessert next time.
The food (though plentiful and served piping hot) lacked any of the delicious taste I expected. I had the fajita burrito which was recommended by the server after I described what I was looking for.
The presentation was beautiful. The burrito was huge and filled to the brim, but sadly it was bland and the meat was tough as a glove. I didn’t taste a hint of any seasoning.
They could have knocked this out of the park, but totally missed it.
Won’t give it another try. Too disappointed.
Service was good however, below what one would expect from an establishment with their reputation. There was staff not wearing face masks/coverings, although there was a sign on the door stating that all patrons had to wear a mask, so if this a concern for you, you may want to choose another establishment for your dining needs.
Food was served fairly quickly as were the drinks. The guacamole was surprisingly fresh and of decent quality. Their beans appear to be rehydrated and of a quality one would expect from a fast food restaurant.
The restroom was in a very bad state. Much like one would expect from a stadium restroom during the Super Bowl.
Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant for anything more than a last minute, no other option, hungry and need food now meal.
