I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of La Cantine des Commerçants in Jonction neighborhood in Geneva, Switzerland.

A wonderful spot for creative French cuisine with a modern twist. We were warmly welcomed even close to closing time, which is later than most restaurants in the area — very convenient. The decor, with its green and pop art inspiration, adds a cheerful touch to the dining experience.

We started with flavorful amuse-bouches, especially the crispy Gruyère bites, which were a highlight. As starters, we had the grilled eggplant with cheese — light, fresh, and perfect for spring — and a beautifully composed salad with edible flowers and seasonal fruits that tasted like summer on a plate.

For mains, the duck breast was melt-in-your-mouth tender, with just the right amount of crispiness in the fat and served with spätzle and a sauce that brought everything together. The Simmental beef fillet was also excellent — perfectly cooked and served with a delicious gratin dauphinois and grilled vegetables.

To finish, the raspberry shortbread dessert was rich and bursting with flavor.
All in all, a place I can definitely recommend for anyone looking to enjoy refined yet creative French cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

While they didn’t have many non spicy options, the chef and the waiter went out of their way to accommodate me. The dish was delicious, and I highly recommend the pistachio dessert.

Just wow. This place has it all – great food, friendly service and a lovely vibe. The chef is out front so you get to watch him cook your meal, which was some of the best food we’ve ever had. Would return in a heartbeat if we’re ever back in Geneva.

I wish I discovered it before despite living in the neighborhood. Warm welcome and service. Excellent and special food. Inventif and tasty desert that you can’t find elsewhere in Geneva.

We had a fabulous dinner here with a group we are traveling with. I had the chicken with sweet potatoes, rice, and boc choy. The dessert was fresh strawberries with basil mousse, sherbert and meringue, just amazing. I would highly recommend it.

I had my birthday dinner at this place, and overall, the experience was great. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was excellent—our waiter was incredibly professional and attentive.

However, there was one unfortunate moment that really stood out. A manager or another staff member came over and started speaking very loudly with our waiter, who remained calm and professional throughout. The woman was shouting and discussing internal restaurant issues within earshot of all the guests, which felt very inappropriate and unprofessional.

Later, the same woman approached another table—presumably people she knew—and started a loud conversation while they were clearly trying to enjoy their dessert. It was quite distracting and disrupted the otherwise pleasant atmosphere.

Fantastic, memorable dishes, very friendly staff, great atmosphere. We’ve been there numerous times and every time is a great experience. Children friendly too, which is not usual for such a high standards place. Prices are reasonable given the quality of the dishes and the overall experience. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Geneva.

The only thing better than the amazing food was the service. Nathalie* provided us with great service from the beginning, not only putting the flowers I brought in water but also engaging me and my friend in conversation in a way that made us feel at home throughout the night. She provided excellent recommendations including the lamb shoulder and was attentive throughout.

Similarly, although we interacted less with Mathilde*, she also took great care of us. When my friend left her purse behind, Mathilde sprinted to catch up with us before we got on the bus.

Overall it was a fantastic time at a restaurant that has become my favorite restaurant in Geneva!

*Apologies for any mistakes in the spelling of the names
