Never been to Columbia but the family behind the scenes have brought it to us! The thought and passion put into the decor is unmatched. Sandra x2 you both were amazing. The service was top notch! Suggesting two of the must haves! The photos show you what’s worth trying if you have never had a Colombian meal. Everything is home made from the empanadas to the churros. To wash it all down they have made to order aqua Fresca, which was a decadent Guava flavor. Think it’s time to jump on a plane and make a trip to Columbia, but if you need an amazing night that is close to home, it’s worth the drive! Gracias!!! For everything!
The decor catches your eye right away, high cielings with a spacious layout evoking warmth, nature and the Columbian heritage. The servers all greeted as soon as eye contact was made. The service was fast, attentive and friendly. The atmosphere cozy and relaxing, the noise level low.
I ordered a small variety of foods in order to experience a spectrum of dishes. It included beef, chicken, fried fish, assorted seafood and chicharon. In general, the flavors went from very good to great. Very tasty, latino style flavors that seemed authentic. The proteins however had a wide spectrum. From extremely poor quality beef, to average quality chicken, fish, seafood and shrimp and finally to an excellent chicharon.
Beef ratings below USDA Choice go down in quality to Select, Standard and close to the bottom is Commercial. Their NY Strip was Commercial at best. It had a texture, toughness and fibrous quality that hinted at a chemical tenderizer. Pictured below is a huge chunk of grilled fat attached the strip that should never be there, so, the source, cut and quality is a mystery.
The chicken was a bit stingy but covered in a mushroom cream sauce, that tasted good. One of the better dishes. The fried fish fillet was so thin that the breading matched it’s thickness. Again tasty but lacking actual fish. The Rice with Seafood was one of the better dishes. A medley of seafood with a very nice flavor profile. The shrimp a bit overcooked, the rice quality sub par and the dish was not nearly as good as La Pequeña Columbia down the road.
A 2nd visit with friends proffered slightly better results. A tasty dish of fried spare ribs, ceviche and shrimp in a coconut cream sauce. In the end, it’s ok, but a return visit seems unlikely.
The star of the show was the Chicharon Ceviche. Unfortunately, the thin and wonderfully crispy chicharon was sitting in the wet ceviche liquid that made it soggy and chewy in that area. Must recommend the ceviche sauce be on the side cause the flavors pair really well. Who knew? That plus an awesome homemade pique makes for a great game watching appetizer. The thin sliced plantains that come with it beg for a garlicky cream sauce as a side. Just saying, if you want to make it better…
A menu this massive and other reviews I read are evidence that there are plenty of authentic dishes I missed that would likely be better and raise my rating. My choices were varied and cover a wide spectrum. There are some obvious glaring issues to be addressed or people will not return.
Even though my server and I had a bit of a language barrier (she spoke little English and I don’t speak Spanish), she went out of her way to make sure everything came out just right, and the service was excellent. It really showed how much they care about their guests.
I will definitely be coming back, and I’ll be recommending this place to friends and family. A wonderful hidden gem!
I’m in love with restaurants when they use typical decorations and art and this one looks amazing, it has a lot of Colombian art on the walls ♥️and loving the tree art again , food was delicious, I know it looks a bit watered but the flavors were amazingly, I got menudo soup (I think that was the name), made with chicken necks, gizzards, livers, whole eggs, chicken, potatoes, and vegetables I know it sounds gross, but so tasty ♥️it came accompanied with rice and salad, my friend got an old ( ) chicken soup I think again that was the name not sure, really delicious , it came with rice and salad as well.
The service was good and fast, place was really clean, family oriented, Spanish and English-speaking, we got soup because the day looked moody like a rainy day but they served many Colombian food not only soups, the price was very moderate.
Smaller portions that I am used to at Colombian restaurants but I think it’s just compared to other places having bigger portions with the intention of having leftovers
I finished everything and didn’t feel sick after eating, that’s how the portions are.
