Visited for the first time while exploring Este, CO. This place has outside seating with a beautiful view of the mountains. That is what first caught my eye about La Cabaña. The food did not disappoint, I ordered a carne asada, the meat was super tender and very well seasoned, and the rice and beans were equally tasty. My husband had a carne asada burrito, which he also loved. The food has a very authentic Mexican flavor, which we always appreciate. The service was very good, our waiter was very polite and attentive to our needs. I also ordered a house Margarita and taquitos, as an appetizer, Margarita was great, and it was a very good portion. The Chicken Taquitos were very delicious. We will sure be back when visiting Este again.

We decided to hit this place for lunch for two reasons; the great views and the exercise you will get climbing the stairs to get to it. Seriously, it’s a lot of climbing. But the view of the surrounding area is pretty decent. I tried the enchiladas which were ok, best one was the mole chicken enchilada. The one I liked the least? Beef enchilada with red chile. Not using dried chile pods to make their sauce here I can tell you. The wait for a table was about 45 minutes so bear that in mind as well. But they text you when your table is ready so you get two workouts in climbing those stairs.

The deck is a fun location but the food is really not good! The flavor of the salsa is salt. The veggies and meat in the fajitas are not seasoned and grilled they are served in a very bland tomato sauce. The flavor of the chicken tortilla soup is also just salt. And the prices are pretty high! Chips and salsa $7, chicken fajitas $25, large marg $25, tax and tip $70…for really mediocre food!

For context on the mixed reviews, it really depends on what time of the day and what season of the year you go. We went for a late lunch and had a great experience with the food being good, service pretty smooth, and a great view. Only caveat would be the prices, which for the price of the rent in the area is understandable. They are often short staffed, most likely due to the one star reviewers who make the servers want to quit their job. So in that context I would say this is a great restaurant.

Yummy Mexican food! Large portions and margaritas were on point! The service was very good, the restaurant was clean and comfortable. They have a large seating area outside that looks enjoyable in the summer months!

We showed up without reservations…but noticed that the outside patio had only half (if that) of the tables in use. The inside was empty except for 2 people sitting at a booth. I understand that they might not have had enough wait staff to accommodate the tables…but that was only the first problem. The hostess was not very friendly, which to me should be the person that represents the restaurant in the best way. We put our names down to wait and asked if we could wait at the bar. We went to the “bar”. This should not be a bar. It had one bar stool and one unfriendly bartender. Also, we felt in the way of workers going in and out of the bar since it was such a small space. Again…bartenders should have great personalities right?? Not this guy. He was so slow and not friendly at all. Not once from beginning to end did anyone who worked there ever smile at us. The bartender took forever to make way-to-expensive drinks that tasted awful. After a couple sips of my margarita I had a stomach ache because of the over whelming sweet and sour he put in it. I would usually send back a drink if it was that bad…but all 4 of us decided to just leave. I can’t rate the food because we didn’t wait around for our table. I did see some of the food on trays and it had the presentation of food someone would get at a concession stand. We didn’t want to deal with any more of the unfriendly hostess, bartenders and servers we came across so we just left. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Travelling to La Cabana is a like a time warp. First you make your way up a maze of stairs unsure of where you are exactly going. Hesitantly, you keep stepping up because before you started the stair stepping you saw a restaurant from the street perched side of the mountain. Reaching the final switchback of stairs your back will face the restaurant. Turn left and you will see a hostess stand. There were plenty of tables, when we arrived it was 2 in the afternoon. However, oddly enough we were told to sit for 15 minute wait. I typically don’t wait. I was with family who wanted to wait. This is where the time piece doesn’t sit well with me. We were hungry, tables were abound. Yet we wait… playing their game. I will spare you the weirdness of all of it. We waited at our table too. My family member forgot she wanted nachos and ordered fajitas. I blame her memory loss on the wait. Had fajitas they were decent. Had to dig for the steak under a bed of vegetables. Do yourself a favor, don’t wait unless you aren’t hungry. Or unless you like waiting.

A must stop for anyone looking for the best Mexican food in Estes. We had a fajita and it was a revival of flavor and spirit.

Maybe it’s because I have always lived in areas where Mexican food is great and well priced, but LA Cabana is a huge rip off. First you have to trudge up a labyrinth of stairs. When seated, they do not have paper menus and while you are trying to access the online menu they want to take a drink order. Once you do get to the menu, you realize that chips and salsa is $9, Burritos are $20, and everything else is high 20’s or more. The kids mac n cheese is $15! Worse, the chips came and were horribly stale. No my style. We asked for the check for two soft drinks and a basket if chips, $18.42 without tip. Slap a twenty on the table and leave! Cross the street to any one of a dozen restaurants with more reasonable prices. I guess some folks come for the view here, it is nice, but for their prices the menus should be printed and the chips freshly made. Hope I am saving you the cardio work out to get up to the top floor restaurant!

First visit and we loved both the drinks and the food. We had the Cadillac Margaritas and the chips and salsa. For dinner we both had the Chicken Fajita Salad. The Salad was all fresh and delicious and so were the chips and salsa. The rooftop terrace is great and fantastic views. All the staff is very professional and very nice. The drinks wow, really good and no skimping on alcohol either, really had a kick. Next time I will take a Cadillac Margarita to go as well! We met the owner and she is such a warm and wonderful women. Erin, our waiter, was a very nice young man and we enjoyed meeting him. Exceptional service. We definitely will be back and recommend this wonderful restaurant to our friends. Don’t miss out on this place!
