I am on a quest to try a new coffee/pastry location once a month. This month I came to La Boulangerie in Hyde Park. The barista did a great job with my expresso and the staff was friendly. I had the delicious breakfast croissant and it’s egg, swiss cheese, avocado, ham and bacon. Absolutely a MUST have. I also had to taste an almond croissant and WOW…flaky and soft with just the right almonds and softness inside. I highly recommend this coffee spot.

Nothing like a French cafe when you least expect it. As I was exploring Hyde Park, I stumbled upon La Boulangerie. What a gem. The decor was retro, French and modern at the same time. Especially stricking was the cool mural/ painting of the Eiffel Tower on the back wall. Surely a place to visit on 55th located in the back side of the walking mall. Great lighting delicious bread and croissants. It will be a regular spot when im in the area.

Everything here presented beautifully. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by this wonderful display of baked goods. You can even see the bakers working on the croissants.

That being said, nothing really stood out which is fine in a suburb but doesn’t really cut it when you are a Chicago bakery and your north side location is thriving.

I don’t really understand the contrast but I can tell you that the spinach in my spinach and feta croissant was scant and not evenly distributed. I enjoyed the tarts but can see them being too tart for some and the quiche was a full miss. It was kinda bland and the cheese was all at the bottom. Also, the floor was a bit on the dirty side.

Overall not a horrible time – I would give them a second chance when in need.

As soon as you walk through the door the atmosphere is very inviting and warm. The pastries on display look fresh and delicious, I stood there for 10 minutes trying to decide what to choose. The barista was very friendly and even recommended one of their quiches, which was amazingly creamy I might add. Definitely come here if you’re looking for a break and a something to nibble on ❤️

Perfect café for students. Free WiFi and plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Phenomenal food and coffee. I had the Brie croissant sandwich, which was flavorful and light. Tasty but not greasy! They serve Dark Matter Coffee, Chicago local and a cut above the rest, smooth and not bitter. The atmosphere is impeccable outdoors in nice weather: the patio is shaded and the WiFi is strong outdoors. The indoor wall paintings and decorative lighting lends a delightful atmosphere inside, too.

The food and service are great. The Quiches are great and include a good size salad. The Zebra croissants are also good. Bryant’s service? Impeccable!!

A bustling French cafe style spot, the food was very good as were the pastries. Quick service. Seating at busy times is a bit tight especially with some patrons coming in for long chats, but still worth the visit! Outside seating in the warmer weather times.

I frequent La Boulangerie (Hyde Park) at least once a week for a Pain d’épi baguette, a macaron, or another pastry.

Yesterday, I walked into the bakery/pastry shop with the idea of getting a small gift for some residents in our self-managed condo who had had a long week. It seemed to me, on a Friday afternoon, that a special treat was in order, and a perfect start to their weekend.

Now, when you visit, you are always greeted by a friendly staff who take a few minutes to ask you how you’re doing, etc, and in the course of our conversation, I shared the plan for the macarons.

Without missing a bit, the young man turned and walked back to repackage the macrons in a small macaron gift box. When he returned, and as I paid for the macarons, he said, “Wish your residents a good evening.”

The level of kindness and generosity, as well as the listening, was extraordinary. It’s why I will always return.

So a HUGE THANK YOU to the staff at La Boulangerie & Co Hyde Park. You have a brilliant and dedicated team.

And, to close, the residents LOVED the macarons and the presentation.

Much peace.

One of my favorite places to eat & work in Hyde Park! A very cute bakery with some delicious breakfast/brunch options and plenty of baked goods & fun drinks to choose from. My only complaint is that I wish the place was bigger – the indoor seating fills up fast, so if you want to sit down and study/work here, you need to get there early and get lucky.

This is a nice bakery located here on the Southside. I tried the sea salted chocolate chip cookie. Wasn’t a huge fan. . It was too thick for me. But the chocolate croissant and ham and cheese croissant was fire!! Will be back!!
