We went to La Bodeguita De Mima today with a reservation for 3, but later my friends called to join us last minute. I thought it will be a problem, but our server was really nice she agreed and helped us join the tables without any attitude. That made the whole dinner so much easier.

Coming to the food, we ordered a lot (around 3 appetizers and 5 main course) and honestly everything tasted great, each dish had its own flavor.

For appetizers we tried the Empanadas Cubanas (veg and chicken) — both were really good.

For main course we had Pollo al Mojo, Pollo Asado, Arroz Imperial, Arroz con Pollo a la Chorrera and all of them were tasty. No regrets on any dish.

Ambience is also really good, nice vibe to sit and talk.

One more thing I liked — they did a birthday special for us (they came singing) and they gave a dessert and it was actually really good, not just for name sake.

We found reflections and tastes of Old Havana Town at La Bodeguita de Mima in the NuLo neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. This Cuban restaurant and rum bar serves up delicious Cuban food and drinks with warm hospitality and prompt, friendly service by Ramon, our waiter. The ambiance and decor is festive latin Havana, 1950s. We enjoyed the pork tamal (tamale) and the Cubano (classic Cuban pork sandwhich) paired with plantain chips. I ordered a Forbidden Mojito. While our bartender prepared our cocktails, a plate of fresh hot bread with two different flavors of butter spreads were provided to us. The staff are friendly, accommodating, and dressed in Cuban cultural attire. We came as guests and left as family. In Julie’s words: “We must come here whenever we visit Louisville.”

Mediocre food and high prices.

We came here for our first visit, and 14th Anniversary. Really awesome interior, with a fun and celebratory vibe. It was clean and smelled like good food.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The coffee was fantastic! My wife loved her chicken dish. I’m also pretty sure these were the best black beans I’ve ever had. I enjoyed the yuca as well.

The Cubano was ok. Tons of juicy meat, by far the most I’ve seen on a sandwich like this. The flavor was heavily dominated by the meat, which was mostly a fatty pork taste. This reminded me of an unseasoned pulled pork sandwich. The pickles and the mustard didn’t stand out and were overwhelmed by the meat. Its also by far the most expensive Cubano I’ve seen outside an airport. The shrimp appetizer was five really small shrimp. It tasted ok, but it was way too expensive for the quality.

The chocolate cigar was delicious and the presentation was great.

Overall I felt this place was ok, but I won’t come back. It’s a special occasion/novelty place in my book, kind of like Hibachi. You’re paying a lot for the experience.

Great cuban place in Kentucky! Who would have thought… My wife ordered the Pichana Steak (pictured) and it simply melted in your mouth. I ordered the Arroz Imperial and it was equally as delicious. Great vibe, and Rosefranny was an amazing server. Definitely try them out!

This restaurant is so good you MUST make a reservation to be able to enjoy this experience. I managed to sneak a spot at the bar and had the most wonderful experience. The watermelon mojito, Cuban bread and butter, and pollo asado were beyond comprehension. Not to mention the live entertainment that made the experience over the top. While the food and drinks were phenomenal, I think what made this a meal I keep dreaming about was the atmosphere they’ve created. The colors, the authenticity, the staff, the fedoras, the menu. If you find yourself in KY you should make a point of visiting. If you aren’t in KY then you should be.

I will be back. My first visit, wish I’d of found it sooner.

The food, the drinks, the service and the live music was Awesome.

The menu is totally filled with authentic Cuban cuisine with so many choices that it was hard to choose. The portions were awesome.

The bar is a full bar and the curtailed specifically drinks are diverse for those who aren’t sure. My Spicy Pineapple Margarita was awesome.

The ambiance is flat out an authentic feel. The pictures and artifacts from Cuba just adds to the experience.

I can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Overall, this place is fantastic! I’ve been here a few times now and literally everything I’ve had is great. The croquetas, tostones, arroz con pollo a la chorrera, cubano, and ropa vieja are all outstanding. The tostones and ropa were the best of those as I would struggle to not get those every time I go. As for drinks, the Canchanchara is the highlight, granted their mojitos also do the job.
A special call out to the service as every server we’ve had is very knowledgeable and nice. We’ve also been there when there was a singer/small band that was a hit with our kids and all the kids in the place.

La Bodeguita De Mima is, simply put, electric. This is my second visit, and the atmosphere is consistently loud, lively, and overflowing with authentic Cuban spirit. Consider reservations mandatory, as this large venue is always packed—if you walk in, you’ll definitely be soaking up the energy on the sidewalk for a minute or two.
I’ve previously enjoyed the relaxed, live-music setting of the back patio, but this time we were right in the heart of the action in the front dining area, which pulsed with infectious energy.
We kicked off the evening with a pitcher of their famous Mojitos. They were perfectly balanced—minty, bright, and dangerously delicious, a little too easy to drink, perhaps!.

For a starter, the Chicken Empanadas were a flawless choice. They were beautifully crisp and flaky, providing that satisfying textural contrast to the savory filling. Served with vibrant red and green dipping sauces, they were the perfect opening act to the meal.
For my main course, I kept it classic and ordered the Cubano sandwich. It was pressed to perfection—melty, savory, and served alongside a generous portion of crisp, salty fried plantain chips.
However, the real spectacle at our table was my friend’s dish (I regret not catching the name!). The entrée was cooked and presented in a sealed can, which the server dramatically opened right at the table. It sounds unusual, but the theatrical flair was matched only by the flavor of the dish itself, which was tender, rich, and deeply satisfying.
Just as I remembered from my first visit, everything was excellent. La Bodeguita De Mima delivers on flavor, presentation, and an unforgettable Cuban vibe.

Absolutely delicious! What a gem in Louisville. My friend has been to Cuba several times, and complimented the authenticity. Definitely plan to return and bring more people. I wish they’d open a restaurant in Nashville! Service was fine. Did not offer dessert only coffee. Did refill waters, and was very politely. I think more sales could have been made had server politely suggested features or house specialities! Again, exceptional. Loved the decor! Will return and recommend to all traveling through Louisville from farther south or friends around the US.

We’re visiting Louisville from Chicagoand decided to try Cuban food for the first time. It turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the South. Our server was incredibly professional and kind – his recommendation of the salmon entree was hands down the best we’ve ever had. Highly recommended!
