DON’T GET THE MENUDO! It was stinky and I kept finding little black hairs in it. Very yucky, lost my appetite. My family didn’t like their dishes either. A shame since the food here used to be good. Just go somewhere else…

Update: 3/12/25

The last time we went for having lunch we ordered “camarones a la diabla” and “enchiladas de mole” disappointed dishes, we think they unknown how those dishes are cook if they are in the Mexican food market, also the amount of shrimps was embarrassing, man we didn’t went for charity, we payed up $80 for the food for 3 guests, be generous with the food, we order a special dish, we didn’t pay for salad, rice and beans!

Also we was practically ignored for the lady waitress

Food was no bueno. We ordered 5 different dishes, all were mediocre at best. Gordon Ramsey should go yell at them for the poorly made dishes. Indoor area needs to be updated too, plus ceiling had signs of water damage. Do better. Food used to be really good. It’s a shame

Burritos are pretty big here. I got the carne asada burrito. Some of my other friends ordered other plates like carne en su jugo and chilaquiles. The only thing lacking was spice and flavor. Was a bit pricy. Also some of the waitresses or cleaning crew looked mad as if they either had a bad day or they looked liked they were obligated to be there. Other than that I will think about going back.

Been coming to this location and El Monte’s for years! Both locations are just as good. The birria de chivo is my fave, but the food altogether is as authentic as can be. The fresh tortillas a mano are perfect. And the chips and salsa are only the beginning to it all. Top Mex Food spot around! ❤️

This location differs significantly from others in nearby Downey and Bell Gardens, CA. For one, they only serve beer, not liquor. I went with two others and we ordered two plates of chilaquiles verdes, which came with rice and beans. We also added a carne asada plate and two micheladas. Service was mediocre, but the beans were great. Unfortunately, none of the chilaquiles were crispy, and the salsa verde was chunky with tomatillo skins, which no self-respecting Mexican mother would use in her chilaquiles.
The bill totaled $104. The chilaquiles verdes were priced at $16.95 each (around $33 for both), so the carne asada plate likely cost about $20. The carne asada itself was decent, but other places offer better flavor. This brings the total to around $50-60, which made me wonder if the micheladas were priced like stadium drinks. However, unlike the vibrant atmosphere at a place like Dodger Stadium, this location lacked charm. The booths were old, worn, and patched up with duct tape.

I’m still trying to figure out how the bill got so high. When we arrived, we had one server who finished her shift without announcing it. We only realized she left when a new server came to check on us. Usually, servers let you know when they’re leaving and introduce their replacement, but that wasn’t the case here.
There are better places nearby, unfortunately I ended up here because my usual choice with excellent food and service is closed Mondays. Save your time and money and calories.

By the time my cilantro came my food was cold. Coffee cup is always empty and servers avoid eye contact, so food got cold waiting for tortillas. Can’t blame no one but my self it’s not the first time bad service happens. Now why are beans red and watery and birria meat hard and dry?

The Truck on Broadway and Washington has better birria, this place is just nostalgia

The food is not bad. The waitresses are usually not very friendly, and when a complaint was brought to the owner about bad service, he was dismissive and ignored the complaint. The fact that the dishes are so expensive and in addition, one has to give tips, sounds like a joke. Only a small bag of chips is about $5.00.
