I’ve admittedly avoided this spot for a long while due to the persistent shenanigans on that strip of Colfax, and it’s less than appetizing exterior. However, last weekend we returned for smothered breakfast burritos that were some of the best
I’ve ever had. La Abeja is clean inside, despite its surroundings, and the food feels and tastes like it’s made with love by your Mexican grandmother (because it is). Best creamy, spicy and flavorful green chile I have had in Colorado. Huge portions, made fresh and served piping hot. Puts most hipster burrito places to shame. Muchas Gracias!

I was charged $18.00 for a $10 dish. I called when I saw the charge on my cc and they said “well it was 18 that day”.

That was not listed on the menu.. I asked for a refund and they told me they close in 20 minutes and if I wanted the 8 dollar difference – only cash – I’d need to come back in person and were very rude on the phone because I wouldn’t travel back to get the “refund”.

This establishment is a scam. I won’t go back for them to fix this issue, they should have been able to fix it on their end. It’s a bummer because I do love supporting local restaurants, and honestly their enchiladas taste good so far, but i won’t be back again. I’ll stick to plenty other respectable local places nearby on colfax.

In response to the owner:
I was not intoxicated, and I’m not sure why that would be relevant. Even IF (again i was not..) I was too intoxicated to serve, you have the right to deny service at any time, I work in the service industry as well. Here is where it was listed as on the menu, as most of the prices were marked with edits over the prices.

For years, this has been my favorite spot for Mexican fare, everything has been solidly consistent. Amazing breakfas burritos and tacos, my favorites remain the quesadilla with barbacoa or carnitas, or the classic Huevos Rancheros. Salvador and crew are always very friendly, and the food is authentic and well prepared.

This is my favorite place to get a smothered burrito – ever. They have the best green chili I have ever had. I work in the Wells Fargo building and we regularly order from here for lunch. Do not let the outside fool you! This place is a must!!

I came here for first time due to high reviews. This is a family owned business from Zacatecas, Mexico. It’s an okay looking hole in wall across from McDonalds on Colfax and Pennsylvania. Not the best neighborhood and with construction, parking can be difficult. The staff seemed friendly and courteous but not really customer friendly. Not wanting to greet and make people feel welcome or hold a conversation. They are open until 3pm and have a good steady stream of people that come in. If you are sensitive to sodium or just want to watch sodium intake, probably not a good place. I sampled the Menudo which was very tasty but I could taste the sodium sort of like Pho that has a lot too. I ordered the breakfast burritos. One regular and one smothered. You don’t get red or green chili/salsa on side because they say it’s inside the burrito. The burritos were huge even for $9-$10. The chorizo wasn’t spicy like you tend to think chorizo should be. The green chili was okay. I’m not sure if it’s homemade or not but it didn’t taste fresh. I don’t believe it’s made daily. It had a taste of old.

Walked in first time and ordered a carne asada burrito with red salsa for takeout. Was in and out in under 3 minutes, in hand with one of the best burritos I’ve tasted in my life, let alone Denver. The location is central and convenient, if you’re not a weird person you will have nothing to complain about. The price is extremely generous considering one burrito is enough food for one day, and reasonably healthy. I will be back many times.

One of the best breakfast burritos in Denver. It’s pretty large so it’s not the cheapest in the city. The green chili has a nice spice level, smooth texture, and robust flavor. The coffee had a hint of cinnamon which was a pleasant surprise.

Had an incredible bacon breakfast burrito here today. The tortilla was the real deal, savory bacon, amazing potatoes, fresh eggs, green chile bursting with flavor and the perfect amount of melty cheese all cooked to order. Absolutely fantastic. Possibly Denver’s best.

Mexican comfort food at its finest. While the location and exterior might leave you feeling doubtful, all apprehension will disappear once that first bite hits your tongue. The food is delicious (my wife claims that their carne asada burrito is the best burrito she’s ever eaten) but perhaps more importantly: it’s consistent. We’ve never not loved every bite.

We’ve remained very faithful to their burritos on all our previous visits but this morning I was feeling adventurous and went for the chilaquiles instead (pictured here, taken to-go). Safe to say that I now have a new regular order. And it was only made better by the addition of green chile which they sell to-go in multiple different sizes. We also never visit without buying an extra side of beans for use in making tacos at home the following day.

Portions are more than generous. Two items plus one side is enough to feed my wife and I for two meals while still feeling borderline uncomfortably full each time.

Very rough place from the outside.
The breakfast burrito was big and it was good. I thought it had more potatoes than I typically like in my breakfast burrito, but as you work your way into the burrito it isn’t so potatoey. I really liked the heat from the sauce but it lacked a lot of foavor. I’m glad I stopped in and will try again!!
