Ordered the YinYang ramen bowl (“best of two worlds of Sapporo miso and Tonkatsu shoyu ramen) for ~$21 + $6.99 combo with Thai iced tea and pork bao bun + ~$10 dessert (matcha pudding with red bean + Japanese cherry blossom jelly). First off, the vibes and interior of Kyuramen is very Asian hip and cool. It’s worth a visit alone as it’s different from many other restaurants. They have this honeycomb design private seating on the side from the main dining and bar seating areas. So cool! Good separated dating spots too. Now the food…I’m not a Japanese ramen foodie so take my review of it lightly but the two styles from my YinYang bowl didn’t draw me in. The top Japanese ramen recommended restaurants taste similar to me. Maybe one or two in my life was “outstanding”. I gave this fourth stars because although the ramen to me was more 3 stars, the rating is experience which encompasses the vibe and overall. The vibe and interior adds the extra ⭐ (star)!
The YinYang ramen bowl is half and half. The Sapporo miso part was unbalanced imo as the spice part took over too much from miso as I can barely taste it. Spicy connoisseurs may like it but as I’m not one I wanted the miso flavor to be better balanced. The other half Tonkatsu ramen fell below in comparison to other Tonkatsu ramens I’ve had at top rated restaurants. As far as the ramens, maybe choose one of the many others they have as these two were a nay for me.
The pork bao bun was good but it needs slightly more sauce as it’s dry from the fatty (thick) bao bun. The combo is worth it if you like Thai iced tea and pork baos (maybe ask for more sauce or on the side). Third course…desserts. Although I was dining solo, the desserts were interesting so I ordered both the matcha pudding with red beans + Japanese cherry blossom jelly. Both were a perfect ending as it was too sweet and overbearing like many desserts can be. It added a touch of sweetness to balance the salt and umami ramen. Match is heavy in flavor so hope you like your matcha if you order it (I do) and jelly = bouncy…enough said. They both come with sides of dripping sauce match being paired with what seems to be milk and a sweet pink liquid for the jelly to be….more bouncy (kidding lol) it adds the sweetness to it.
We ordered the two flavor into one Ramen, and the omelet rice, the broth was rich, milky, and deeply flavorful without being overly salty. The noodles had a great springy texture, and the chashu was so tender it practically melted.
Service was quick and friendly. The thai milk tea hit the spot, and the whole meal felt like a warm hug.
It’s not the fanciest spot, but it’s a solid, dependable choice for a satisfying and comforting bowl. Great value for the quality. We left happy and full, definitely our new go-to for ramen cravings in the area!
My only complaint was the service was really good at the start, but after we got our food it went downhill from there. No refills, nobody checking in on us long after we finished our food. We wanted to order both desserts, but decided not to because we waited so long for anyone to come by our table. It was a little confusing if we had a specific server or just any server that happened to walk by.
Regardless of the service, we understood that it’s right after the holidays and it was a pretty packed house. We’ll still go again because the food and vibes are worth it and give the staff another chance.
Ordered the yin yang ramen
Ramen soup flavor was overly salty portion is a bit small for the price
Omurice was cold with lukewarm warm egg and Demi glaze sauce.
The temperature of the omurice really make the dish disappointing. Pork chop was tough and not very crispy
Overall atmosphere and decor is extremely nice however the food did not live up to its expectations
The servers were great! Was greeted immediately and sat quickly. Chris was great! Always attentive and gave great recommendations. They have a bell to ring the server but that wasn’t needed since he would always check on us. 10/10.
Definitely recommend the combo meal. It’s a great deal! You get a tonkatsu ramen, bao bun, Thai iced tea, and dessert.
Everything was so delicious, I couldn’t stop smiling.
Omurice katsu demiglazed 10/10 – the sauce was amazing, eggs were super fluffy, as if biting into a cloud.
Tonkotsu ramen – upgraded to black. Great amount of garlic taste, if you are garlic lovers, definitely recommend getting the black. Perfect amount of noodles, Al dente also. (Also they have a slurp and win so if you finish the entire bowl and soup at the bottom you could win one of multiple prizes).
Matcha dessert- if you’re a matcha lover, this is a great dessert. Plenty of matcha flavor, not too sweet.
Thai tea was good, didn’t get to try the bao bun yet (saving that for lunch tomorrow).
Definitely will be coming back!
