Reviews
The broth isn’t perfect and seems more on the water and powder side, but it is just how it tasted, it is good, but not like hardcore true Korean food feel. But I still enjoyed it. Nice place to eat out if you want to try something out the box. It isn’t spicy either, so too localized here. The pickled stuff was awesome though!
Dumpling were nicely fried and filled with meat, it is a good snack before a meal.
Service was wonderful and I enjoyed the lovely lady that took care of us. She made the day a bit never with good service!
Recommendations: The beef bulgogi is done exactly the way it should be done, sliced thin and grilled with char. The mandu dumplings are delicious (especially the fried preparation), and the kimchi is spot on. Other great dishes are the kimchi-jjigae (kimchi stew with tofu or other protein substitutions), Japchae (glass noodle stire fry), and Galbi (grilled marinated short rib).
Service: Friendly and attentive. Tip well.
Atmosphere: Fine lol. Once you taste the food you won’t really care how the joint looks. They clearly didn’t put the most work in to it, but get the bulgogi dinner with fried mandu and tell me it matters to you in the slightest. not gonna happen pal.
Ordered 오징어 볶음 (squid stir fry). Nice, familiar flavor. Squid had a good texture, not overcooked. The vegetables still had a bit of crunch. Ban Chan assortment was delightful; some sour, some tart. I would’ve liked more cabbage kimchi.
The service was very cordial; people were very friendly. The restaurant was clean and orderly. I loved the whole ambiance.
You’ll love this place. You want to go. Go now.
I only gave 4 stars on the atmosphere because I don’t want anyone to walk in there thinking it’s some posh restaurant.
We haven’t tried Korean food before and were pleasantly surprised. I can’t speak on the service really. I walked in to pickup my food and there were ladies in front of me taking forever to do a Togo order. Another waitress ended up grabbing my order for me. The appetizers (kimbap and fried mandu) were both great! I would definitely get them again. I got the beef bulgogi and that was amazing, the fried rice I got with it wasn’t really flavorful. I could’ve gotten the white rice and been just as happy with the meal. My husband got the chicken and broccoli teriyaki. It wasn’t bad, but I don’t think it was the best chicken and broccoli I’ve ever gotten. Overall the food was good, I would prefer this over any Chinese food. But I can’t rate it very high because I want to try some other Korean restaurants to compare the food. Overall, not bad food at all. If you’re in the area I would suggest giving them a try.
Notable too is the service – very friendly wait staff, they come back when we seem to need time to order without making us feel rushed, they remember that one of us ordered water without ice…double checked to make sure that we didn’t need to take home the untouched bowl of rice with our boxed japchae.
This place is truly a gem. It is worth the long drive from VA Beach – again and again!
But beside that, the food quality though more expensive, is excellent. We ordered the wonton soup which was delicious and we loved the flavor and the use of egg, which was a pleasant surprise. I would go back to order that again.
Entrees were spicy beef bulgogi (it was not too spicy) and the beef ribs which came with rice and fried dumplings. They gave a small bowl of sides that we had to share which was also disappointing compared to other Korean bbq places. But the portions of the meat were good and the beef ribs were the best ribs I’ve had in a long time. Cooked to perfection and flavorful. I would go back just for those ribs again.
Overall it was a good experience, the waitress was kind and patient explaining their menu to us. They do seem to have a short staffing issue (like most places these days) and it took a while to get our food but they did inform us that there would be a wait and apologized.
The restaurant is nothing fancy if that’s what you are looking for, it’s very casual dining. I look forward to having the wonton soup and beef ribs again. If you are looking for an all you can eat, cook for you at your table style Korean bbq, this is not the place for you. But if you enjoy quality beef ribs and wonton soup definitely make it happen for yourself!
