The Black Garlic Ramen was very disappointing, not much garlic flavor. The Karaage Chicken is okay, but it taste more like popcorn chicken, and not the good ones. I usually finished my food, but I didn’t eat all my poke.
The ramen was definitely my favorite of the two! The broth was rich and the veggies and noodles were very fresh. I also LOVE how soft the tofu was, so good! The green onions had a really nice bite too. I didn’t get my ramen spicy because I’m not a huge spice person. The tempura was also good! I probably wouldn’t get it again, not because it didn’t taste good or anything, the veggies were very tasty and fresh, I just don’t think it’s really my thing. They were also really sweet and brought over some watermelon (which was also super good!).
Good amount of food for the price as well.
I ordered a chicken rice bowl ($8.50) and bottle of tea ($3.50) and received my food after five minutes. The bowl contained chopped chicken thighs coated with teriyaki sauce, white rice, green peas, and diced carrots topped with green onion. It could’ve been better if there were similar-sized slices of chicken instead of ranging from small slivers to large chunks. However, everything was perfectly cooked and it was pretty good overall.
There’s a restroom at the back that’s pretty clean. Almost all orders are to-go or delivery despite ample seating. The people in charge of the restaurant are a Chinese family who speak Mandarin. A small selection of Chinese food is available in addition to Japanese/Japanese-ish cuisine.
Good stuff
I order the standard tonkotsu ramen mild, and surprisingly it was really good even after the 20 mins it took me to get home. It’s not the best ramen I have ever had (was like $25 ramen), but pretty good for the price point their selling at. It’s easily better then the ramen you would get from other Japanese restaurants around the East Bay, even some from other “ramen” shops here in the East Bay.
Again for the price point of ~$15 ramen this place is pretty good and the serving size is just right for me. When compared to other ramen specialty shops like Shiba Ramen (overall good, little pricier then here) or Yuzu Ramen (good bone broth but serving size too small for their prices) in Emeryville, I would personally prefer this place for overall flavor, price and serving size.
EDIT- To respond to the comment of the owner to my original review.
How did you know the “results” of my eating? Did you look into the trash and checked if I consumed the entire contents of my bowl? And if you did, you would have seen that I did NOT finish my ramen.
