Chefs prepare Japanese meats & veggies on grill tables at this lively eatery & sushi bar.

We enjoyed our food and drinks at Kyoto. The owner was very friendly and hands on. The establishment definitely gives “hole in the wall” vibes aesthetically but the food was amazing and very fresh! I highly recommend their Tuna Tataki. Service wasn’t fast but the food was worth the wait.

Took my wife to dinner here. She loves sushi. So I figured Japanese Sushi and Hibachi restaurant would be good. We showed up a little before our reservation and we were seated right away. But then we had to wait more than 20 minutes for them to even come and ask about our drinks. The restaurant was only about 1/2 full. When they finally did come for drink order, they told us they did not have sushi tonight. When they finally seated the rest of the people that we were apparently waiting for at our table, they did bring out the appetizers pretty quickly. Appetizers were a little bit disappointing for the price but that is how a lot of restaurants are these days. So I guess that’s not really different. The chef that cooked for the Hibachi dinner was pretty good and the food was good. When we got the bill, they had automatically tacked on a 22% gratuity just for two of us, not a group. Pretty expensive for slow service that never came back to ask about a second drink until it was time to give us the final bill. Thats the part that got me the most. It used to be you got tipped well for good service. Looks like this place will just take the extra money when they want.

Floor dirty, bathroom disgusting, overall experience was a bit disappointing. My wife pulled out her chair to be seated, some brown liquid on the seat. We mopped it up.
The table chef did a good job, and overall the food was acceptable, but this place simply isn’t what it once was.
Ordered sushi for an appetizer, it wasn’t delivered until we’d finished our meal.
They added a 22% gratuity (party of 5), then asked for more without noting the 22% they had already charged us. I’m a good tipper, but if it’s mandatory it isn’t a tip.
The pictures are from the men’s restroom. Sehome Bellingham Kyoto.

Nu was our chef and he was entertaining and showed interest in having conversation. He cooked our food well, my only complaint is that the lobster was over cooked. The new york steak was very tender and flavorful. For some reason we were brought our steamed rice like 40 mins before our food was fully cooked but we just simply requested fresh steamed rice when it was time to eat. Kind of annoyed that there was 20% gratuity added to our check on a party of two when our bill was already well over $100 without it but we made sure to tip the chef personally as the gratuity doesn’t actually go to the staff.

Based on the chef for hire sign on the front door, I believe they must be experiencing significant employee turnover. This definitely impacted the quality of the sushi. While the quality of the fish was good, they were extremely skimpy on how much was put in each roll, and attempted to cover it up by loading the rolls with rice. The attached image shows what a roll looks like on the menu vs what was delivered to our table. This roll only had the essence of the advertised spicy tuna and was also missing tobiko and green onion. For the high prices, this was unacceptable.
Plates were dirty (see attached image). The server tried to convince us the aforementioned roll was fine. The manager only agreed to comp it after a few conversations instead of offering to take it back and try again or just comp it immediately.
This was a failure on multiple levels of the staff. We will not be going back and we recommend not going unless additional staff has been hired. Bluefin down the street is a good alternative.

Food was delicious, service was amazing. My only complaint is the the sticky floors and that it looks a little dated, other than that, it was a great place to eat.

So disappointed I don’t even know where to begin. I made a reservation for my boyfriends birthday and wish I could go back in time.
Upon arrival we were seated pretty quickly but that’s about the only positive thing about the evening. We each ordered a cocktail, my hot sake had things floating in it but couldn’t even ask for another one as the waitress never came by again. We ordered a sushi roll for an appetizer and it was all rice, no flavor and was mushy.
Dinner started and immediately the “chef” ended up spraying me with the hot oil (not even kidding.. it hit my face, chest and arms and likely ended up ruining my silk dress) and he kind of just shrugged it off, we were not impressed. My boyfriend spent the rest of the “show” guarding me from any further mishaps.
Scallops and veggies were under cooked, steak and lobster were overcooked. The little we did eat we had to drench in the sauce they provided but the majority of the food went into a container and was fed to our chickens.
We literally could not get out of there fast enough and ended up stopping at a mexican restaurant on our way home. Save yourself the money (and potential injury).

Went after work with a co worker and the atmosphere is great! The low fi Japanese music in the background was great! The food was delicious as can be! The hibachi chef we had was hilarious! He had a Naruto head band on (can’t remember his name because I laughed the entire time lol) will be going back in the near future and support this restaurant! I Will be informing my friends about this place and how lovely and lively it is!

The experience here was exactly what was predicted from the look of the building outside. Just an outdated family owned restaurant serving up your typical sushi restaurant hits. They got a little bit of everything for your Japanese food cravings. It’s a neighborhood staple that’ll disappear when the owners retire kind of place. One that’ll be a fading memory for a generation or two. Places like Kyoto are staples of Americana at its finest. We ordered gyoza and veggie egg rolls as apps and 4 sushi rolls. 1. Cucumber and Avocado roll. 2. Las Vegas roll. 3. Crunchy Philly roll. 4. Firecracker roll. All tasted fresh. Which is always a concern for me when trying a sushi restaurant for the first time. Service was courteous, friendly, and had great timing.

Very mid, chef didn’t do many or any tricks and made it very fast, we got steamed rice and it was never brought to us, meat was dry and not flavorful. It felt like we were forgotten. The gratuity was $35, I spent over $100 for an unmemorable birthday dinner with no dessert.
