Sushi lover- Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse has the best raw fish in the Kalamazoo/portage area (not fishy at all) at an affordable price. I have tried several sushi restaurants in the area and Kyoto is by far my favorite so far. Working through trying all their signature rolls (lobster roll, black spider roll, salmon lover roll, all 10/10) but absolutely love their 3 simple roll sushi lunch combo (my favorites are spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, & the Alaska roll). Their miso soup is absolutely devine. No complaints with their ginger house salad, crab cheese wontons, shumai, or gyoza, or fried rice. I look forward to trying something new off their menu every week, although hard not to repeat orders when everything so far is delicious!!
I usually get takeout or delivery and their food still remains fresh. They have only forgot my miso soup & ginger salad once.

Amazing experience!
My good friend and I have birthdays within days of each other so we’ve gone here with our families for a couple years now to celebrate.
The server and chef were absolutely amazing!
They treated my daughter like royalty; gave her a unicorn inflatable headband, and right before we were leaving gave her a pair of training chopsticks, among other things.
When they found out it was our birthday celebration, they brought out two plates of deep friend ice cream (which is amazing!).
Such an amazing experience and makes me look forward to next year.

One of my favorite restaurants. Surprisingly not busy when I go. I chose to go to Kyoto for my birthday, which was a great decision. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful! I swear within 5 minutes of hearing it was my birthday, he brought me a beautiful plate of fried ice cream that I didn’t expect at all. Happy Birthday was written in chocolate, sprinkles, and a lit a pink candle. He even sang happy birthday! So thoughtful and sweet.
Always great food, love the mood and lighting.

I’m writing a review for this location after visiting for the first time, and I have to say it was an excellent experience. We had children with us who were fussy at times, and the staff did a great job of cheering them up, even though they didn’t have to. Overall, the staff kept everyone entertained, and the food was absolutely delicious. There were smiles all around. Our server did a fantastic job very responsive to our needs and attentive to everyone at the table. The shop was excellent too; they did a great job as well. I was so happy with our experience that I had to leave a great review so others can come and enjoy it too. It was a wonderful experience for the five of us.

In from out of town, in the area for a week of IT work. Multiple recommendations from locals and it didn’t disappoint. Immediate seating on a busy night at the sushi bar. Service was a little slow on my cocktail, but it was really busy so I can understand that. Staff was “moving with a purpose”, something I appreciate. Sushi order was really fast given how busy they were. Adi and Wendi were rocking the sushi. Flavor was great. Highly recommend.

Delicious sushi rolls and great lunch specials. Good options for vegetarians like me that enjoy sushi I love their sweet potato roll, avocado roll, and the vegetable tempura roll. They have only missed something in my carryout order one time over many years and the manager got back to me and was happy to make things right. Great spot with nice ambiance for dining in as well.

Such a great option for a large group! Served good food as well as entertaining! Are group had such a fun time and left totally full! Be prepared to eat so so much food! Eating at the hibachi grill is such a memorable experience and really do recommend! We were in town for a business conference and this worked out extremely well for our group with a variety of dietary restrictions and food preferences. Only thing I would recommend for the restaurant is to ensure the bathroom is stocked with toilet paper as there was only a little in each stall.

Went out to eat with a few friends for the hibachi and Mustang was absolutely great. Ive been out to hibachi many times and he was the best hibachi cook I’ve ever had. The food was incredible and he made the whole experience even better with his comedy and his engaging personality.
