We had the wonton soup. The wontons are filled to its fullest and was at its tastiest. I loved the broth. I experimented by adding lots of white pepper which changed the flavor profile. I felt nostalgic cos it reminded me of guay jup soup noodles from back home.
We also had the chopped lobster and scallops fried rice not spicy (one of their specials) and damn was it one of the best fried rice I’ve ever had. The rice was cooked to perfection. The dish had the wok aroma which is difficult to come by these days even back home. The lobster (shelled off) and scallops were just heavenly, I knew the seafood was premium quality. The portions were generous as well. I tried the fried rice with their home made chili oil and it felt like a entirely different dish. It was soooo good.
For appetizers we ordered the potstickers in chili garlic sauce and their crab rangoons (I was skeptical of both cos it’s not really Thai), but I was blown away. I was impressed by, the amount of the delicious filling in the crab rangoons and their sauce which isn’t like the typical plum sauce one finds in other places. Their potstickers in spicy garlic sauce was even better after it was left to soak in the sauce. We practically asked for a spoon to slurp the sauce with the potstickers. Moral of this story: never judge a dish by its name or origin. Cos these two turn out mouth-wateringly good.
And we finished the meal off with sticky rice and Thai ice tea ice cream. It was so nostalgically good. I wished they served it on brioche bread to transport me back to my childhood.
On my previous visits, I ordered the beef noodle (also amazing for the beef and broth), pad Thai medium spice was perfect as well. We went back several times and haven’t been disappointed by any of their dishes. This place is that good. Anyone looking for homey Thai food, come to Kwan’s.
As for the food, I ordered the drunken man duck, Thai hot. This meal really hit the spot for me! They brought the spice that I asked for, and the duck was so incredibly tender with some color on the skin. This is some of the better drunken noodles I’ve had, and I make it a point to look for Thai restaurants any time I travel, so I’ve probably tried it from 15-20 places throughout the country (though usually they don’t offer duck, so that was a bonus). Also, they sell beer, which was nice after a long travel/work day.
Highly recommend coming here for great food and great vibes!
We 100% recommend this place!!!
I don’t even know where to start, so many positive things to say. Hands down the best Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to. Went looking for a good Thai place on this most recent trip home to visit family, after not having been impressed with other local Thai places. The family that runs the place was super friendly and welcoming, they provided outstanding service, and they were very kind to my kids (which means a lot to me as a parent). The food was delicious, and everybody’s came out at the level of spiciness they asked for. The wife and kids had meals devoid of any spice, sister and mom got the medium, and I got the hot/spicy level. All of us agreed our meals were really really good! Can’t recommend this place highly enough!
*The place was darn near empty, so we were concerned at first, but just like my favorite Thai place back in Texas, it appears most people order their food to go instead of sitting down. But given the amazing service, this is a place I highly recommend sitting down and enjoying yourself!
We’ve had the pad Thai, massaman curry, basil fried rice, and pad see eiw. 2nd time here and it was all consistently outstanding!
