We dined at Kurofune Japanese Restaurant on Wednesday evening.
From the moment we arrived, the staff and owner Jean greeted us warmly and made sure we were seated promptly.
To start, we ordered the Spring Rolls and 3 Sushi rolls. The Sushi was fresh and delicious better than the many Japanese Restaurants I’ve been to in my 30 years on Long Island.
For our main course, we ordered the Beef Sukiyaki, this was truly amazing. Cooked perfectly with loads of beef, the broth was sweet and savory. Jean, the staff, and our waiter Alan were very congenial. The service was excellent.
I highly recommend Kurofune, We will be sure to return to this gem of a restaurant located in Commack.
However, as sushi goes, Kurofune is one of the better on Long Island. I even voted for it as best of Long Island. But it doesn’t stack up to some of the better sushi restaurants in Los Angeles.
I’ve been going here for decades and will continue to go, but after last night’s meal, I’m going to search for some other places to add to the list of sushi bars I go to.
Last evening, I noticed a listing on the menu for a chef’s plate of sushi at $75. The waiter told us it was prime fish, and better than that which is found elsewhere on the menu. He even told me it wouldn’t be enough for my wife and I but I opted to try it anyway. BIG MISTAKE! The fish was sub-par. My wife told me the one clam on the plate was very tough. Additionally, whoever seasoned the rice overpowered it with too much of some sort of sweet vinegar. It completely ruined the taste of the chef’s plate as well as the additional sushi we had to order. As a result, my stomach wasn’t feeling all that great this morning.
I’ll be back, but I’m going to take a break as I look at other places.
inside & outside dining available
staff are very welcoming, especially the owner.
great ambience and atmosphere
extensive menu with plenty of options
spacious, there’s different rooms you can dine in.
hot tea was good!
loved the stuffed jalapeno!
the Philadelphia roll was pleasant
from the special rolls: fireman roll & Xmas roll were alright, they weren’t my favorite. The red onions were too bitter for my liking and I had to ask for spicy mayo on the side, to enjoy the rolls.
overall it’s a very nice experience
