Super yummy and a nice BYOB place. I came with a group of people and enjoyed trying a little bit of everything! We made reservations ahead of time and our table was prepped and ready when we arrived. I loved the cozy wooden vibe. Our service was great and the food was even better. Everything pork was amazing, the sliders, fried rice, and pork buns were also top favorites. Can’t wait to come back!

I can’t express enough how excited I am to have found this restaurant! The food was spectacular and so light and fresh! The service is excellent with ownership that really cares for their business and their patrons. The ambiance is laid back and welcoming with a calm atmosphere and a visible cooking station. The outdoor seating also looks great for nice days with lots of open space. The location has been in Caldwell for 3 years now and they plan to expand which I am so hopeful for! Such great food and excellent service is hard to come by and I can’t wait to come back!

What a great place! We went to try the pancakes and they were delicious We didn’t know about the rest of the menu until we got there and we can’t wait to come back to try the all of the tapas and skewers the next time. The owner was very and explained the entire menu to us. There was even a lovely welcome note when we got there!

The owner was incredibly kind, and every dish was absolutely delicious!
Highly recommend the Roasted Pork Carpaccio, Kurobuta Special Niku Set, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Spicy Miso Ramen — everything was amazing.
The ramen broth was so good I finished every drop.
Definitely a spot I’d return to whenever I’m in the area. Highly recommend!

Oh-no, POOR-OBUTA. I got a GC here from my sister for $40 and I was itching to use it. You want to get pork belly here, that’s what their name means. They also cook on white charcoal, which is a Japanese method they call Bitochan. It takes time. I ordered the Niku Set, for $32 which is grilled meats, and also a bowl of spicy miso ramen for $20. Sadly for almost $60 after taxes, I was unimpressed with the quality and amount of food that was offered. A 12 piece of chicken nuggets would be more substantial than the tiny portions of meat on skewers they gave me. They looked like appetizers. They need to understand that Americans have huge appetites. The wilty lettuce surrounding it was a mockery. The bowl of ramen was nothing special, I was expecting a deep rich umami broth, instead of a mildly-interesting salty substitute. At least the slices of pork in the soup are decent, it’s more protein than the Niku Set delivered. There’s way better ramen shops close by for more bang for your buck. I think the bitochan is a novelty that isn’t gonna last long, unfortunately. The restaurant was dead and they have quite an ample footprint for real estate, two spaces co-joined. We don’t need another burger chicken pizza Mexican or Italian joint on the Ave, but these guys could do much better.

We had a lovely brunch here for my husband’s birthday! The food was delicious and the host/owner was incredibly kind, making sure we were taken care of. The soufflé pancakes and skewers are a must try here.

Another wonderful exquisite tasting-style visit, this time for bunch. Great that brunch menu offers both unique brunch dishes and regular menu options including grilled items.
•Kaarage chicken, each bite a textural orchestra of crunchy exterior, succulent dark meat interior. Paired with mayo, red pepper sauce, and fresh kick of thinly sliced cabbage and perhaps daigon. Fantastic.
•Souffle pancakes were an absolute DREAM. Pillowy soft, spongey, perfectly blanketed with velvety vanilla whipped cream, dusted with sugar, topped by thinly sliced fresh strawberries. Heavenly with light drizzle of maple syrup.
•Grilled pork belly with leek, essentially luxe bacon around greens concept but elevated due to premium ingredients and handling. Sauce garnish again a true standout for its acidic-sweet-onionly counterbalance.
Kind, friendly proprietors who’re truly dedicated to the craft. Fabulous meal!

Glad to try flagship dishes-
• Fried rice with chicken: individual al dente pearly grains of rice with nice balance of vegetables, egg, and succulent grilled chicken thigh cubes. Flavorful without packing a salt punch.
• Tomahawk pork chop: fun, dramatic aesthetics and grade A execution. Wholesome cut off meat chop with fabulous charred exterior and unadulterated, naturally umami interior. Toasted bread crumbs and chimichurri were great taste and texture accents.
• Kyoto Tofu with bonito flakes: standout with the sophisticated flavor combination from the smokey fish flakes, vinegary sesame marinade, and the eggy Tofu with crisped exterior. Definitely would recommend trying.
Recently updated menu with extra seafood dishes.

Intentionally designed dining experience, everything from interior aesthetics with the straw ceiling lamp shades to the utensils with the double-ended chopsticks. Ingredients are of quality and emphasis, the farm raised pork taking center stage.
• Roasted pork carpaccio a standout with meltingly rich marbling in the mm thin meat. Sweet balsamic-type sauce on the arugula a nice balance to the saltiness.
• Chashui bao bun a nice balanced bite of fluffy carb, soft roasted pork, crunchy vegetable shreds, and soy-based sauce. The spicy fried chili, peanut, garlic mala sauce was phenomenal.
• Pork skewers likely most embodying restaurant’s specialties. The slight char and crisp exterior from the white coal contrasted nicely with the toothsome succulent pork. Again the side sauce, an aidic flavor with minced red onion among ingredients, was a marvelous complement.

Kurobuta is a special place. Probably one of the most authentic Japense restaurants outside of Japan. I wanted to travel there from Fort Lee because of the Fluffy Pancakes. I fell in love with these Pancakes in Hemeji Japan and wanted the same experience. They were absolutely perfect. Also had the Pork Wonton. I have honestly not had better anywhere. They farm their own pork at their very own farm. I had the opportunity to meet the owners, a husbund and wife team. You can tell they have dedicated their lives to their love of food. In all honesty, this was a wonderful dining experience…all the dinnerware, napkins, plates…etc is top notch and they do not cheap out on anything! Complete class act and represent Japanese culture and food seemlessly. I am going back soon for dinner this time. BYOB. Best of luck Frank & Mrs, Frank! (I don’t recall her name). Oh, I really should leave an “ask” or recommendation. Can you please offer filtered water to your guests? The water in Bloomfield tastes …not so great. Rest assured, they have both sparkling water and flat. Delivered in a pretty cool case. Final note, if you want authentic Japanese cuisuine with a family that is dedicated to serving only the finest quaility, I would say definatley worth a 45 minute drive. AAAA+

I was really impressed by the flavorful take on Japanese grilling with a creative fusion twist. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the pork dishes which is expertly grilled over aromatic white charcoal, delivering rich, smoky depth and perfect texture. The ambiance is warm and relaxing, and the service is professional, with chef personally explaining the ingredients and cooking methods. Very unique dinning experience.

Overall service was quite slow. While the food was acceptable, the flavors were inconsistent–some dishes were too salty, while others were too bland. The XO noodles, in particular, were so salty that they were almost inedible, which was very disappointing. The portions were also rather small compared to the high prices, making the overall value unsatisfactory.
