We stopped by on a Friday afternoon. We were seated quickly. We were excited to try the Hello Kitty items. The Hello Kitty Avocado dream donut was really good, as was the Pompompurin Tempura roll, that was my favorite. Service was good.

Interesting and fun atmosphere, music was a little loud for easy conversation IMO. The food was good, rolls are kinda small. Good variety but the conveyor had a lot of empties. Some selections never got to us still available. Some domes had no push/open button. We spent about the same as we would’ve for 3 or 4 rolls at a traditional place, but got more variety. The robots are cool. Very little human interaction so not sure about tipping…
The bathroom was a trip!
Fun and tasty. We’ll probably be back even though we live an hour away.

Friendly staff and a fun place to visit. The food is good. You have the choice to get food off the rotating bar
or getting it made fresh by ordering from the touchscreen. It does get a bit pricey at $4 to $6+ per plate. Depending on what you order. An order is typically 2 pieces of sushi or 1 w sushi wrap. I recommend using the download app to get get points for discounts if $5 to $10. You can also use more than one coupon at checkout. You can also make reservation in advance.

Kura Sushi in Bakersfield offers an exciting and interactive dining experience that combines quality ingredients with tech-savvy service. The revolving sushi belt is always stocked with fresh, vibrant selections, from classic salmon and tuna to creative fusion bites, all beautifully presented. The ordering system is fast and easy, with a fun delivery robot and a reward game for every 15 plates you finish.

The sushi tastes as good as it looks, fresh fish, well-balanced rice, and attention to detail in every piece. The restaurant is clean, stylish, and perfect for families, couples, or solo diners wanting something different. Great service and an unbeatable value for the experience.

Kura is an experience. That’s what you’re coming here for. You’re here to have sushi delivered to you on a conveyor belt.

They have done an excellent job Americanizing this Japanese staple. You’ll be fascinated by this – for the first hour. After that, you’ll find many of the plates are already opened by the time it cruises by. At least 50-60%. We came 2 hours before closing and was seated close to the kitchen, so it’s clear that the chef needs to accelerate food production.

Most plates, except for special orders, were 3.80 as of this writing. This is expensive, considering a California roll at a near by sushi restaurant (Jin sushi) costs 8.50 for 8 large pieces. You’re going to get 3 very small pieces here.

The soy sauce is delivered in an annoyingly small bottle that you have to repeatedly shake just to get a few drops.

Wasabi is ordered in advanced. Both myself and my neighbor ordered it and waited well into the dinner before we received it- after asking multiple times. Strange considering how this is a sushi experience staple in the us.

In summary, this is a novelty. Enjoy it, go home and talk about it. Don’t look at the check because you paid a mark up for the experience- which I felt was on point.

But do not expect a high quality sushi restaurant. It very much matches the vibe of Tokyo fast food sushi.

95% of everything tasted fresh, good & with several options of sushi & rolls, so it’s more of a 4.7 star rating on the food. Between the 3 of us, we had 17 plates from their conveyer, 3 special order plates & of course each got a drink. My least favorite was the cool temp wagyu beef because I’m used to it from the smoker, hot temp & right after being rested, so maybe what do I know about having it sushi style. On our visit, their cheese cake tasted very similar to Jack in the Box’s.

This sushi bar was tons of fun! All the sushi options I had were awesome, and I probably could have gone on longer if I had unlimited funds! The way it works is you can snag any plate from the revolving belt on the lower level. When you discard the plate into the plate counter built into the table, it calculates your final bill. Each plate is usually around $4, with some exceptions being more expensive. If you want a specific plate of sushi or something made fresh for you, you can order it off of the tablet and it will arrive right to your table via the revolving belt on the upper level. Once you start, the concept gets easier. As for the service, I wouldn’t necessarily rate it five stars, not because it was bad, just because it was mostly non-existent. You’re seated by a hostess, a waiter explains the gist of everything, and then that’s the extent of service for the most part unless you need something like a fork. Your drinks are brought to you by a robot server and you can order your food and pay the check via a tablet. Again, this isn’t a bad thing, but it’s not something that warrants 5 stars in the service section because it’s mostly self serve 🙂 The tablet also has information on each plate for anyone with dietary restrictions. I will be returning again soon just because it’s such a neat experience and hard to come by in the Central Valley.

Edit to my review july 14th 2025:

came here with a group of 6 and it sucked, they dont have any seating for more than 4 people. I’ve gone to many Kuras over the country and pretty much have had a spot for a larger group. Not aure why here. Besides that…. food is very good, recently managed to eat 17 plates myself which is my own record haha, the specialty Wagyu beef is my favorite when its avaliable, much better than the normal beef option. We made a reservation hours before coming here for our grouo of 6 and still had to stand outside for like 15 minutes in the kively Bakersfield 105F degree heat and then got split up as a grouo because they couldn’t seat a grouo of 6 ‍♂️ ‍♂️ ‍♂️

As usual, a great experience! Been to many Kuras all over the place and one finally came to Bakersfield!

Older review from before july 12th 2025:
They also had my favorite, Wagyu with garlic slices

We had 22 plates! Stuffed myself and got 3 plates To-go.

So many things to try! The salmon and Tuna options are the best and virtually anything that seared or with cream cheese.

Prices have gone up, been eating at Kuras since it was like in the power 2$ per plate range 3.80$ adds up quick! This was a treat for us though. Some Hot sake and a beer and tea and 22 plates, ended up being 112$ for the 2 of us.
