Haven’t been to the restaurant in years. Went in for the birthday deal. Made an appointment via their website which directed me to Open Table. Ordered 4 Teishoku meals, birthday one was free. We got chicken katsu, miso butterfish, teri rib eye, and tempura. Food was ono, service was great. The restaurant got busy real quick within an hour of opening.

Quite possibly one of the worst restaurants I’ve been to in Oahu. Let’s start with the positives. The atmosphere was fine: music in the background, booth seating, and some plants hanging in the back. Service was fair though we did wait for a longer than usual after being seated. OK, let’s about the negatives. The portion sizes were the smallest I’ve ever had. The food was overcooked and is definitely overpriced. The picture below cost $64 dollars and I left hungry. You don’t get to charge premium prices if the food isn’t premium. Do not come here. Slow service, over priced, and subpar food. There is no silver lining.

Came to Kuni’s to celebrate mom’s birthday and there aren’t any tables for more than 4 people (we had 5 in our party and there are booth style tables only). We were sat down by the hostess/server and she was soft spoken, hard to hear and didn’t really explain anything or ask any questions.
The fork provided was greasy and the cups felt the same way.
The food was a miss in my opinion for traditional Japanese food. Dad’s Katsu was dry, Mom’s Udon was too sweet, shrimp tempura was greasy/heavy, miso butterfish is fried and the just tossed with the same miso sauce from the salad.
Plenty of other good reviews on here by others and to each their own. However, we would not come back considering there are plenty of other options on island.

Newly renovated. Clean and new!
Menu is limited. Beers are cold. Sashimi was so fresh!
They can’t fit more than 4 people per table so our party was on two separate tables.

This has been my favorite restaurant since small kid time. Interior looks updated, by it still has the same food, service, and atmosphere.
New birthday special is great! If only I didn’t live so far away…

Landed on Honolulu. I surfed on facebook, and an ad popped up for Kuni Restaurant. Decided to go and dine there. Outstanding experience. The food was delicious, and the staff, attentive, personable, and delightful to engage. The manager made me a complete stranger feel welcome and special. Well worth many return dining experiences.

I love this place! Have been coming here with my family for 20+ years. Really tasty local Japanese food…chicken katsu, teri chicken, teri beef and shrimp tempura is consistently good. Fair portions for the cost considering inflation. Customer service is friendly and efficient…Sato is the best! Their bar is right next door to the dining room so it can get kind of loud… it’s part of the personality of the place.

My friends and I dined here for my birthday lunch/dinner. I made the reservation the day of (Sunday) and called once they opened. Easy process and very welcoming. They also gave me a discount so I’m not aware of the total as my friends paid but the meal and staff were awesome. Everything was delicious. We were very pleased with the shrimp tempura (huge) and the portion size as well as the quality of the miso and salad. Mahalo
