Reviews
It’s small, clean, but not airy as the big restaurant. My daughter using the iPhone App and the food came out quite quickly. This is a family owned restaurant so the mom serves for everyone, quite effective.
We ordered the usual, xiu mai, beef rice crepe, chicken feet, beancurd wrapped, soup dumplings, fried gyoza, some tripes that my daughter likes. There’s no meatballs that my son likes.
The chicken feet are up to par with others, very tasty and cooked perfectly. The beef rice crepes are good and soft, the beancurd wrapped has too much cornstarch, sauce is too thick although the taste is there, didn’t look good. The soup dumplings are bland, not very delicious as other restaurants. The tripes are good. My son ate all the fried Gyoza and he said it’s OK. The xiu mai wasn’t full flavored and not fresh.
I’m not sure if this is a cantonese restaurant or mandarin. It seems like a mixed one. To me the Cantonese restaurant has the best dim sum. Mandarin or chinese mainland has the best soup dumplings.
Anyhow, it’s OK for me, but the kids didn’t like it much.
The prices are very reasonable.
It was the first time I had auto-gratituty at a hole in in the wall restaurant with paper cups. It was 18% tip for my party of 5 which is fine but the service wasn’t good. The guy didn’t refill our tea pot even though the lid was opened and we had verbally asked. We had to ask again. We had to go up for napkins, to ask for the check, and for boxes. He just didn’t check up on us. The place wasn’t busy and had two other tables that had two diners each. There were 2 call in orders.
Also, a basic tea bag was $1 a person. Usually, this is free at a Chinese restaurant unless it’s loose leaf. 3/5 ppl drank it but charged us all even though I said 3 drank it. They didn’t even change the tea bag in the pot so it got weaker.
Favorites:
– Golden sands seafood roll (deep fried shrimp wrapped in rice roll) SO GOOD!!
– golden shrimp: deep fried shrimp ball
– sui Mai mushroom and pork
– fried pork ball
Least:
– custard bun
– beef roll
The restaurant is a small place with only a few tables with a total seating capacity of 15-18. The menu is online only (scan the QR code at the table) so if you want an overview then you’ll need to review the menus in the window before coming in.
We ordered a lot of your standard dim sum dishes (har gow, shiu mai, chicken feet, etc.). After a few minutes, they were brought out to our table. The flavors of the dishes were fairly standard but you can definitely taste the freshness.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and the service. Will certainly be back!
