Everything was stunning from the scent of the candle in the welcome area to the delicious cocktails amazing service and even the simple steamed rice. Service was very friendly but also unobtrusive. We only got a few bites of food but it was superb. Cocktails were very fast and so well paired! Loved the sea flower – like could I have the recipe lol but highly recommend!!!

This is what unique dinning & drinking experiences are all about! I can’t speak highly enough about Kumiko after spending 5 days in Chicago trying all the “Best Of” recommendations. Incredible drinks. Just so damn creative! And the food… my goodness. It’s a tiny menu but it’s packed with creativity and perfection IMO. This is where you should go if you only have one night in the city or if you’re looking for the perfect date night OR if you’re just a solo guy like me sitting at the bar. Skip the Milk Room, come here y’all. Shout out to the amazing bartender too! (Sorry I didn’t catch your name)

We only stopped in for drinks after dinner, so I cannot comment on the food. That said, stopping in “just for drinks” is completely worth it because Julia is an absolute rockstar. We ordered several drinks during our visit, which all arrived quickly and were expertly crafted. No component of our drinks was overbearing or heavy-handed. It was fun taking a sip of a drink, scanning the ingredient list, and noting how the different flavors all work together to create wonderful and unique cocktails. These were hands down the best drinks we had during our visit to Chicago, and I’m hoping we’re lucky enough to have Julia visit DC sometime for a pop-up!

Came here to check its cocktails since Kumiko is #25 on the world’s 50 best bars 2022 list. Tried a few cocktails but my favorite was the signature cocktail Sea Flower, worth ordering it! I also ordered a portion of the Karaagé and it was very tasty. My only caveat to this place is that I wish we could see drinks getting prepared. There is a beautiful bar with built-in shelves but all our cocktails came from the kitchen – still a delightful experience!

Overall a pleasant experience. we came prepared having purchased Julia’s cookbook which is fabulous. She should make an effort to engage with her customers. The bites were well paired with the drinks. The cocktails were subtle and refined. Note: NEVER use a chipped plate in service. That’s amateur.

Wonderful experience. Delicious food. Small bites/portions, but every bite is so good. Delightful staff. Every moment is curated to perfect from the moment you walk in and are greeted to the bathroom. The candles smell incredible and you can tell they pay attention to every aspect of the experience.

The drinks were delicious, food was terrible. I would give the drinks 5 stars (flavor + creativity), food 1 star (I only really liked the katsu sandwich, but for the cost not worth). We ordered for food the Karaage, Katsu Sando, Scallops, the Misoyaki (this was so bad we sent back – it was rubbery and smelled so bad), and the Truffle Milk Toast. For the prices would expect better – recommend only stopping by for drinks.
