Visiting Sacramento over the weekend and I crave for a good sashimi. Google says no seats available but we decided to call and was told we can head over. There must be a technical glitch because when we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t full. The sashimi presentation was beautiful. Fish was fresh and generously sliced. I have never had white tuna but it was really yummy and melts in your mouth. Host is very attentive and makes the dinning experience lively. Also tried their hot sake and soju whiskey. Nice!

You know it’s real when I had to stop mid meal to leave a 5 star review. First of all, cutest packaging, so tasteful and intentional, not necessary but such a nice touch! Made getting takeout feel fancy. Friendly service. Everything tastes absolutely incredible. So happy to have found the best spot for sushi and it’s in midtown so close to where I live. This is amazing. Love this for me. Please go here.

I was visiting Sacramento to see some friends and they took me to Kumi after I told them that I wanted some sushi.

I was simply blown away by their selection and quality of fish; not to mention that it was all so affordable. Each piece of fish was buttery and sweet and it just melted in the mouth. I highly recommend getting their omakase so you can try all their premium fish.
We also tried their sake and it was pretty cool that they let us pick our own sake glass.
I’ll definitely be back, next time I visit Sacramento. Kumi is simply amazing.

Really enjoyed this small business Sushi restaurant located in the outskirts of downtown Sacramento. Service was welcoming and friendly. Sushi was fresh and delicious. Good selection of drinks which I forgot to take a photo of them. Fried tofu was cooked perfectly, different from agadashi we usually get but nice to not have it soaked in the sauce. We will definitely be back when we are in town and craving sushi!

Update: We still love Kumi! It has become our regular sushi spot and the staff and chefs are lovely. The nigiri, sashimi, and rolls are always consistently great. Their spicy edamame is the best one out there!

Original review:
We ordered a variety of nigiri and rolls and we were fully satisfied! Good fish, fair prices and friendly service. We will be back!

Ran in for a quick takeaway order. I’m impressed bc the food is tasty, the staff is polite, the dining room is cute, and the business is environmentally friendly.

Food: $8 for 2 pc sake (salmon) nigiri. Fish portion is huge and fresh. Sushi rice is prepared and seasoned well. $13 for chicken karaage. Super crunchy, marinated thigh pieces served with lemon and spicy mayo. Also a good portion.

Packaging: My to-go order was packaged in all recyclable or biodegradable materials! This is something I dont always see here in Sacramento. Staff also asked what supplies I might need (chopsticks, wasabi, soy sauce) to cut down on waste. Really appreciate these conscientious business practices.

Ambience: There is bar seating by the sushi chef. More bar further away. Tables are spacious and comfy looking. TVs showing sports games when I went in. I’ll definitely be back for dining in to have a beer and dinner! See you soon.

This is a hidden midtown gem whose ROLLS rival Kru. The Fortune Toro and Snow White are my favorite, they are simple elegance at its tastiest with SUPER fresh fish (FT – sake toro inside, tuna toro on top & SW – hamachi inside, scallop on top… both are rare finds!) The Master Roll’s flavor was perfect with soft shell crab and shrimp tempura inside and assorted fish, masago, and green onions on top. The San Juan roll is for spicy lovers with a roasted jalapeño inside that was a bit too strong for me, but I loved that it was torched. I didn’t try the sashimi, but I imagine it would be great. The agedashi tofu was good, a bit heavy on the tempura, but the sauce was on the side so it didn’t get soggy like other places do. The Yuzu Kampachi had passionfruit puree which paired well with the fish, but it wasn’t as tender as I would like.

Friendly owner, underwhelming food experience unfortunately.

My wife and I are on an adventure to try as many sushi places near Sacramento and decided to try Kumi Sushi after seeing strong reviews online. The owner was very kind and welcoming, but the service felt disorganized. Our server seemed lost—we had to repeat our order several times, and even then, mistakes happened. An otoro we never ordered appeared on the bill (removed once we pointed it out), and our A5 wagyu didn’t arrive until we asked about it.

On to the food:

The rice in the nigiri was cold, which really took away from the overall experience. Maybe because we arrived an hour and half before they were going to close?

The chutoro didn’t look or taste very fresh, though I did notice they tried adding a truffle twist on top.

The saba was $12, which felt overpriced given it’s usually one of the cheaper fish, and the quality didn’t match the cost.

The sake and hamachi were decent.

The biggest disappointment was the A5 wagyu nigiri. At about $22 for two pieces, it came out as very thin slices, with roughly 30% of each piece just visible fat, almost like pork belly. Instead of the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu experience, it was chewy and uneven.

Overall, while the staff were friendly, the service issues and the quality of some dishes—especially the wagyu—left us underwhelmed. We had high hopes going into the place 🙁

Casual atmosphere sushi restaurant. Went in on a weekday night and it wasn’t too busy.

The waitresses were very welcoming and friendly.

Food was definitely really good! I ordered the chirashi and loved the quality and freshness of the fish. The sushi rice was perfect too.

I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and the attention to detail when plating the rolls. And each roll was chopstick-licking good.

Out of the three rolls I tried, the volcano roll was my favorite — and the nigori sake.

Kumi is now one of my go to sushi places!
