A traditional Hawaiian drive in, with the Hawaiian staples you would expect, loco mocos and burgers. Our burger was decent but not great, the dive aspect and supporting a local business made this stop worth it. The customer service was just ok and this was a quick service option on our way home from Volcano National park to Waikiloa. In my opinion this is a true 3 star eatery. I probably would not stop again but it was a worthy vacation experience.

Stopped by K’s Drive Inn in the morning and it wasn’t busy at all, which made for a quick and easy stop. I ordered the loco moco with potato mac salad for about $10, a fair price for the portion. The loco moco patty was on the dry side, but overall it was still tasty and satisfying. The potato mac salad was a nice addition and balanced out the plate. Not the best loco moco I’ve had, but good enough for a casual local-style breakfast.

Do not order the Chicken Hekka. I’ve given it some thought, and this might actually make it into my top three awful-tasting foods.
The kitchen doesn’t look clean either. There was almost no taste or spice, the chicken was just tough and dry, and the whole thing felt like it’s either sad leftovers reheated again and again or made with those wild island chickens.
Dirty water all over kitchen floor.

We stopped at K’s Drive-In while passing through Hilo. It’s got that old-school local vibe, nothing fancy, just a big menu, good prices, and a steady flow of locals coming through.
I had the kalua pork burger, and it was solid. Smoky, flavorful, and way better than I expected for something that came out of a little walk-up diner. The portions were generous, and the prices felt fair for what you get.
The twist cone after lunch hit the spot, definitely worth trying if you stop by.
Staff was friendly and helpful, even with my kids asking a bunch of questions about the menu. It’s not super quick, but they take care with the orders.
Only downside was the cleanliness, some parts of the kitchen looked like they could use a deep clean, and one of our other dishes was way too salty. Also had a small card fee tacked on at checkout that I wasn’t expecting.
Still, it’s a classic Hilo spot. I’d swing by again for the burger and cone, just maybe bring cash and keep things simple.

Very casual. Walk up ordering. Picnic tables to sit at. Food cooked quickly. Chicken katsu was very good. It came with rice and pasta salad which were good as well. BBQ Bacon cheese burger was smashed and overcooked. Added additional bbq sauce to make it better. We ate at 2:00 pm. The restaurant is located next to a road in Hilo with outdoor seating. Slightly noisy, but not overwhelming.

Shoyu Pork was on special today. Got that with extra Mac. It was delicious. Almost as good as moms. The aunty taking orders was super sweet and the expo was professional and courteous. After 20 years living abroad, happy to come home and see this place still going.

K’s Drive-In began in 1964, as did I LOL there is a reason it has been around for this long. All the local classics done well. Breakfast lunch or dinner. They are known for their twist cones and the flavors change often. French fries are really good here as is the beef stew. Order at the window and sit on the patio or get it to go

The cashier was friendly enough but that had to be the worst food I’ve ever eaten that didn’t make me sick (yet). We ordered burgers and chicken shoyu. The burger was raw and even if it had been cooked the whole way it was somehow worse quality than McDonald’s.
The chicken though…… It was pure salt, grease, tasted like it was left out too long and soured. It was gritty like it was overcooked. I gave some to the person I was eating with and she made a face, and said that it tasted like poison. Even the rice was dry, like Chinese take out that was left in a container for a day. How do you mess up rice?????
I was too afraid to try the mac salad based on everything else so I can’t say if it was any good or not.
Im new to the island so I can’t say what prices are like here but for 3 terribly poor burgers and whatever that chicken was ….$60 feels like I was robbed.
I’m not sure what happened but we left and went to a local McDonald’s. Learn from my mistakes and just go to McDonald’s or something else in the area.

Must try their twist flavor serve ice cream. I had the pineapple and vanilla flavor. Delicious dessert after eating one of K’s Drive-In special of the week. Their mac salad was also good. They have a variety of local dishes.
