I hate leaving bad reviews but this place deserves it. I went to grab some chicken tenders from the deli after my workout. I got the cold kind of tenders that are in the deli section- not the hot kind behind the counter. I go to check out and only one register is open and the self checkout stations have a line that is starting to wrap around the aisles. So I notice two young ladies at the Customer service desk who are just chatting, so I go ask them if they could check me out since I only had one item. They said “No, we aren’t allowed to do that.” And then instructed me to go back to the checkout area. After waiting 5 minutes in the self checkout line I am able to get my chicken tenders and get back to my car. Seeing as I had not eaten anything today I reach into the container, grab a tender and take a big bite. FROZEN SOLID and PINK in the center. I immediately spit out the undercooked chicken in the parking lot and left. This place is terrible. I’ve been here a dozen times and every time I leave disappointed. I don’t know why I even go back.

I only recently began taking an interest in Krogers on the advice of a friend. Until recently, my only experience involved the Krogers in Augusta and I found those stores to be PHENOMENAL. I was mad at myself for not shopping there more often. They have the best selection at the best prices, especially the ready to eat meals and I loved the meat department options, especially the filets. The people were so nice and helpful and I thought to myself..man this place ia going to put Publix out of business. Buuttt then I came to the Kroger off Killian Road in Columbia,SC. This is a completely different store. Ive been to the meat counter twice. The first time, I came at 8:30pm and they were putting the food away. I asked what time they close and the guy said 8pm. Ok lesson learned. The second time, I got there at 7:45….and they were putting the meats away. I had missed the filets by mere seconds. I again asked what time they close. Again they said 8pm…Ok soooo…but evidently, the meats are impossible to get to if theyve already taken them out of the display. Both the first and the second time the same meat guy wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. No hey how can I help or let me see what I can do, as a matter of fact he just ignored me. I didnt press the issue because he clearly did not want to be there or either he just didnt want me there. In fact, although disappojnted, I thanked him and walked on. Nothing from that guy, no Im sorry but we start putting the meat away at 7:30, nothing. I thought i got there at the time he told me too the first time. Im some may disagree, especially the girl who got to the counter at 7:57pm. Oddly, they were able to help her fulfill her shrimp request. So, yea, Publix need not worry.

The only thing keeping this deli at 2 stars and not one is because they have an ample selection of meats and cheese. I buy here every week and here is what I see.
The staff will finish whatever phone texting or conversation they are having before helping you and they’ll do it right in front of you. They will also hide by going to the back so one of their coworkers has to help you. You literally have to verbally or do some somersaults on top of the deli to get their attention. Useless.
Management is non-existent, or maybe they are right there and leading by example. There is no one saying ‘hey we have a customer waiting’ with 4 of them standing around, and you being the only person waiting.
I’m assuming they keep it clean, but I’ve seen these people sneeze into their masks without covering their mouth, and near their coworkers who are cutting meat or cheese. I do see them wash their hands so hopefully they all keep that up.
Finally, the way the deli is cut is inconsistent. Depending on who cuts it, you could get a any size cut. I ask for a specific number, most of the time it’ll be a different number.
Just a step up from Walmart…

got take out dinner and looked and tasted as if it had been there since 10am… young man helping me was great though so 3 stars for good customer service. but you go to a “deli” to eat so unsatisfactory in my opinion
