The ambience was homey, the service was kind and efficient (we sat at the bar), and the food came out fast! This is a small space and first-come-first-serve, so we did have to wait about 15 minutes for a table. It was so worth it! The host made sure we were comfortable and got a round of drinks started for us while we waited.
My only note is that I wish there were more non-alcoholic beverage options, specifically warm teas. The food is hearty and a hot caffeine-free tea would be delightful at cutting through the fattiness of the melted cheese and meat.
They do not take reservations, but we were able to be seated quickly after a 15 minute wait. What people say is true–it does take time for the food to come out.
With that said, the pizza is the best we’ve had in Atlanta. Some reviews mention the pizza being bland, which we did not find was the case at all. We really loved the gorgonzola on the quatro formaggi and would have loved more! The tomato sauce for the margherita was balanced. The dough was cooked perfectly with char, chewiness, softness, and crispness. We will definitely be coming back. We also enjoyed the burrata and artichokes.
The restaurant was empty besides one table outside when we arrived so it was certainly a laid back time for staff.
As far as the space it’s a cute and cozy space. Maybe 50’seats total and has the potential for a nice date night
We started with the burrata which comes with burrata, figs, hazelnuts, and saba. When ordered we assumed it came with a transport vessel. Ie. Bread, toast, cracker, focaccia, anything. Well it did not. Maybe that was our mistake but normally when burrata is served it comes with a bread. So we sat there like maybe the bread is coming but it never did so we just ate the dish. Flavor wise it wasn’t bad but it needed a toasty bread for sure. Eating it with a spoon/fork didn’t do the job.
For pizza we ordered a margarita and a K.r.o.g. Which is sausage, onion, tomato.
The margarita was extremely bland and the sauce, which should be the star, fell flat. I had to ask for salt to even attempt to make it up.
The K.r.o.g thanks to the toppings was a little better but again was almost under seasoned. Which made both kind of ehh to eat. I think we each ate one slice and boxed the rest.
Then was the mortazza. Mortadella sandwich. Again maybe my expectations were wrong but the bread wasn’t warmed and it was all just kind of room temperature.
Everything took a little to come out so I expected fresh, hot, seasoned food. Not to mention there was no one else dining when we ordered so they weren’t busy to need to rush and not give things time to heat up or make sure it was seasoned.
Visually things looked good but the flavor which is what matters missed the mark.
Anytime we needed anything we had to look for our server or wave someone down. There was no attentiveness. Even when asking for salt or a box for the majority of the pizza it never clicked for them to acquire about our experience. Eventually we had to hunt down the server to get the check so we could pay and leave.
Aside from a being a relatively cute space I think they kind of missed a mark on everything else. Maybe it was an off night maybe I just expected too much which was simply the bare minimum of customer service and a half decent food.
I’d probably lean towards one and a half star but considering how bad it was I’m gonna go with the lower side with the one.
Kim Tip: Don’t miss the zucchini salad with an order of the charred piquillo peppers (together = perfect bite) or the coal-roasted artichoke hearts. If you’re into mushrooms, add them to the pepperoni pizza – they are so good! – & definitely ask for a side of hot honey for that sweet-savory kick. The Lambrusco Spritz was the perfect sip to a fantastic lunch.
Heads up: there are signs noting a 1 hr time limit on tables.
We went Saturday on 11/29 and arrived at a restaurant with a mid-size crowd and open seating. we sat at the bar. Here’s where I became disappointed… the bar area and a few of tables were not clean. The server at the bar (standing in front of us) ignored us for an extended period of time. However; when a new customer arrived… she acknowledged them walking into the restaurant but still does not acknowledge us as we’re sitting in front of her. I then asked her for assistance with cleaning the bar counter and taking our orders. The server mumbles something and walks off. I immediately asked another server (Randall) for assistance. Randall apologizes and takes our order, cleans the bar area and places the table setting down. Once the food arrives she follows up and another team member inquires about our experience that afternoon. I shared that the food was amazing but the server at the bar was not helpful. I said I did plan to share my experience in the review as we frequently eat at Kevin’s steakhouse and we have never experienced this level of poor server performance. She apologized and minutes later the GM (John) stopped by and I shared my concerns. He also apologized and said it was unfortunate. He comp our meals (even after we declined). After lunch, we decided to go next door to Kevin’s steakhouse and sit at the bar as it was still early in the afternoon. We had a couple of cocktails and ordered food to go for dinner. While sitting there we connected with another customer from the pizza bar who shared that the bar server had a similar encounter with other customers after we left. I am hopeful John addressed this with the server once her shift ended.
We want to acknowledge the great hospitality and customer service provided by all team members involved…GM John of 6 years on Kevin’s team, Randall the server at Krog’s pizza bar who stepped in to assist and both Hannah’s at Kevin Rathbun steakhouse bar next door. I am hopeful they continue to keep a pulse on maintaining a high level of service at all locations.
