What made this worse is that I brought my girlfriend’s brother and his wife here for their first time trying KPOT and Korean BBQ, and this was not the impression I wanted them to have. Cleanliness is extremely important, especially at a self-serve food area.
I hope management takes this seriously and improves their sanitation standards.
Our server was named Jacob (spelled J-E-I-G-H-K-O-B), and he was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we sat down, he gave us the full experience. He walked us through how to eat the soup, how to enjoy the barbecue, and even helped us navigate the menu. He recommended the bulgogi, the short ribs, and a variety of other dishes—including gyoza, which was phenomenal. My cousin had the shrimp gyoza, and we ended up trying a bunch of things we didn’t even recognize—but loved!
We’re Colombian by birth and don’t usually eat this kind of cuisine, at least not in this way—so we needed what I call the “911 tour,” and Jacob delivered. The food was outstanding, and the service was next-level. Jacob was attentive the whole time, as were the other staff. Whether we needed refills, extra sauces, or a fresh grill top (which they replace every 10 minutes or so when it starts to blacken), they were on it.
There was a 20–25 minute wait when we arrived, which makes sense because the place was packed. While we waited, another amazing server, Julio, recommended we try some Korean drinks. We ordered Soju (S-O-J-U) and Terra (T-E-R-R-A), a Korean beer. Apparently, it’s traditional to mix the two, and let me tell you—it was delicious. The combo was smooth, sweet, almost like cotton candy melting in your mouth. Totally different from Colombian aguardiente, which feels like a fire drill in your throat and stomach. This was light, refreshing, and honestly, a perfect start to the meal.
Highly recommend this place for anyone, especially if it’s your first time trying Korean barbecue. The flavors, the drinks, the staff—it all came together for an unforgettable night.
One downside was the ordering system. The tablet wasn’t working properly, and several of our orders didn’t go through. We eventually had to ask the servers to place orders for us, which was unusual compared to most Korean BBQ spots where the system is more seamless.
Overall, the food was solid, but the tech issues definitely affected the experience.
I just wanted to give you some honest feedback.
Last Monday, we had dinner at K-Pot on Route 18 in East Brunswick. This has been our regular location since it first opened. Recently, however, we started dining at the Hazlet location because it opened closer to my house.
I’m writing this review to help the business grow.
Honestly, the Hazlet location offers more variety, such as seafood boil, fried rice, and fried noodles, which are all very good. The crab clusters there are also much better than Route 18, and they have ice cream—which the Route 18 location does not.
At the Route 18 location, I noticed that the Japchae noodles, which were my favorite, have been removed from the menu. Also, last Monday the seaweed tasted very fishy and smelled bad. I informed the assistant who was bringing the hot pot stock so they could let the chef know, but I was surprised that no one followed up or replaced it.
There was no ice cream and only very limited dessert options. Additionally, the bathroom was not as clean as it used to be—there was broken soap, tissue on the floor, and the sink was not clean.
We really love K-Pot and are regular customers, but lately it feels like the standards at the Route 18 location have dropped. I truly hope this doesn’t continue, as I would hate to see it become like a typical buffet. Please consider checking on food variety and cleanliness.
Thank you.
From the moment we entered the restaurant the greeting staff was very attentive and helpful. Our server/hostess was also very pleasant and attentive.
The concept of technicality cooking your own food (meats / seafood) at the table was actually entertaining and enjoyable. Yes, all the food was fresh and delicious.
We were able to mix our own chosen flavors / sauces / vegetables from the selection suace bar to the selections of meats.
A good family dining experience. Now that I have experience, I am returning ready for another meal.
Just a heads-up: the wait can stretch to an hour during dinner hours, and while the order pad system is convenient, specific items do take a while to come out. Still, the interactive dining makes it worth the wait.
One cool perk? If it’s your birthday, you eat free! Definitely something to keep in mind. Overall, KPOT is a flavorful, hands-on dining experience with a few timing hiccups but totally worth it if you’re not in a rush.
