Loved it loved it loved it!!! It’s a charming place, with a true Japanese character, and quality sushi. The owners are beautiful aged couple, running the show all by themselves, made every sushi piece with patience and care. What a great experience!

Amazing sushi! One of the best I’ve ever had. This is a true one-man operation. The sushi is fresh and beautifully prepared. With limited seating and everything made by the gentleman who runs the place himself, it’s well worth the wait. If you appreciate quality over speed, this spot is a must-visit. Recommend placing a reservation in person for the next day.

Cutest little place – extremely authentic. The guy that runs it was very accommodating and made me a vegan sushi plate with a delicious miso soup and some various maki. It was so tasty and he was very sweet. I really enjoyed this dinner

Seems to be run by an old Japanese couple. The old man was friendly and explained to us the menu in detail. The sushi was fresh and tasty. They gave us a free titbit after we left.

Very unique and authentic Japanese restaurant run by and old man who does everything himself. Sushi is incredible, fresh and very tasty. He even put on a sumo show on the TV for us. Very kind and amazing owner! We were the first customers so we didn’t wait long, but others might have to wait longer since he does everything himself.

This place is INSANE! One of most amazing experiences I’ve had in Japan. The chef was incredible and brought us a vast selection of sushi. Everything was fresh and tasty and the atmosphere was unbeatable. 10/10

The best dinner we had in Yamanochi.

Though beware, you need to be lucky to get a spot without having a reservation, the restaurant is run by a single person and a lot of people tend to try to go there for dinner. I’d recommend going early.

Sushi was good, so was the sashimi bowl. Though the highlight was the atmosphere and how nice the owner is.

Such a charming little sushi restaurant. The gentleman who runs it doesn’t speak much english but google translate fixed that and he’s delightful to deal with. He had 3 familes and another couple crammed in there and through a comical game of charades he communicated that I would have a lengthy wait as I was fifth in line. I didn’t mind. Solo travellers like myself can sit at the counter and watch him make the meals which is fascinating and skillful. Prices are very reasonable. I treated myself to his most expensive dish (still only Y3000) and what can I say… immaculate and delicious. Totally worth the wait and a delightful experience.

Charming mom and pop sushi place amid ancient onsen town. The couple running it must be in their mid 80s at least?! Food is good. Portion is big. Menu is limited with no vegetable options. They play some classy 50s music in the background and have a small TV on. It’s very homey. Service is good and our kids get free drinks, ice cream and an after meal snack(but slow as you can imagine). Pro tip – book ahead of time as they are always fully booked. Parking is at the public paid onsen parking across the bridge.
