The Kid Goat Methi Keema starter was the absolute standout—tender, perfectly spiced, and full of depth, the Muntjac Dum Biryani was to die for. Because the chefs come from a Michelin-star background (Gymkhana), the flavors are incredibly refined and layered. It’s a joy to have this level of regional, Himalayan-inspired gastronomy right here in Surbiton.
You get Mayfair-quality food without the need to trek into Central London. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore “proper” Indian cooking!
We were not disappointed at all!
Excellent service from start to finish.
Parking was easy and free after 630pm in the bays.
There a stunning clock on the building.
The restaurant is nicely laid out and no one is too near. The decor is pretty and welcoming.
My partner booked for 730pm. We arrived at 7pm but that was ok, we were shown to our table and given menus.
Our server was very helpful with the menu and as we already knew what we wanted to order, just needed some advice with the sides.
We ordered paneer tandoori, costal curry, deer biriyani, spinach and mushroom side, cheese and chilli naan, samosa and popadoms. The red wine from India, cobra and the white rhino beer.
Everything was brought out very fast.
My only negative would be the speed of everything coming out but that’s personal preference with eating. I like to take my time and enjoy everything but with breaks to chat.
The food was absolutely fantastic!
We were asked if everything was okay and we were very well looked after with the drinks and making space on the table when we had finished a dish.
We ordered the chocolate brownie and a banoffee pie cocktail for dessert.
I had not had a banoffee pie cocktail before and wow!!! It was so good! Will definitely have that again.
I highly recommend going.
Definitely book though as we went on a Wednesday and it was full!
We shall we back soon with friends as we need to try more from the menu
Overall a great place to enjoy a mean with friends or family.
My friends and I (all Indian)visited Koyal after a recommendation from a friend who enjoys his food. We went on a Tuesday evening and even then it was still fairly busy. The pickle and sauces we had with our poppadums were great and our starters consisting of lamb chops, kebabs and Murg Malai Tikka chicken was quite delicious.
For the mains you have to order their Muntjac Dum Biryani (deer meat), and that tasted wonderful. Their Khatte Meethe Baingan (aubergine) is also recommended and everything was also cooked and spiced just right with a good level of heat.
We had some other dishes too, all of which were great.
For me, their lamb chops (ordered per individual chop) and the biryani were favourites, but I can’t fault any of their food.
I also understand the chef may be a part owner of the business, in which case there’s even more of a vested interest from the kitchen to make sure the food stands out – which it does!
Drinks wise, I had their IPA which is surprisingly good. I say that as someone who doesn’t usually have IPAs.
I would happily come back to this place again and wholeheartedly recommend it.
Pretty epic meal, and some crazy food flavours. The veggie menu was a Sweet Potato and Kale chaat, a Beetroot Tikki which came with a really interesting thick Kadhi yogurt, Tandoori Broccoli, a really creamy Lemon Sorbet, for mains there was super tasty Butter Paneer with sides of rice, naan, Daal Makhani and some really interesting baby potatoes, and finally some great pistachio Kulfi for dessert.
Awesome meal, Michelin quality without having to travel into town. Will definitely be back.
The ambience is casual and refined, with well spaced tables. The staff were helpful and friendly. It’s good value for the quality but that puts it above average for an Indian. But a great restaurant Highly recommend.
The older Gentleman (manager maybe?) Who seated us gave us the perfect level of hospitality and was very professional.
We would return again!
For mains, we had the Bhangjeera Chicken with naan, and that also didn’t disappoint, It was rich and flavourful.
The staff were welcoming, attentive, and helpful. We’d definitely come back again, and highly recommend Koyal to anyone looking for great food and warm service!
