The breakfast was very satisfying. I ordered the mini tiffin combo with masala dosa, and the vada and pongal deserve special mention. The vada was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and well-cooked inside, with black peppercorns that elevated the flavor beautifully. The pongal had just the right amount of ghee. Overall, the food was very good. I really enjoyed all three types of chutney, though the sambar wasn’t to my taste as it felt slightly heavy on turmeric.
Overall, it was a tasty and great value-for-money meal.

Food.
– Masala Dosa, with masala on the side.
Decent sized dosa and it wasn’t oily. It was a bit hard on the ends. I typically prefer a soft dosa it’s easier to bend and I can scoop up sambar/chutney.
I only liked the green chutney, didn’t really try the others.
Masala wasn’t anything special, no big chunks of veggies or other ingredients and not spicy or salty.
Sambar felt like I was eating mainly dal, could’ve used a bit more seasoning. But honestly it felt healthy!

Idly(2) vada(2)
Vada came out really small, smallest I’ve ever had. It tasted great, loved the flavors. It complimented the “plain” sambar really well.

Idly was too soft in my opinion. It would stick to my fingers as I was eating it. Tasted good though!

I really enjoyed the Chai!

Inside
roughly 15-20 tables. Napkins, silverware, sugar at the table. If you ask for water they’ll bring a jug over. It can feel a bit tight inside. It looks like they can move the tables around to accommodate large groups. There is a waiting list you can sign up for. They were definitely packed and busy when I went in.

There is a standalone sink, and a bathroom inside as well.

Staff is friendly, polite and everyone is running around. Just give them a minute and they’ll give you want you need.

outside
Parking is tight! They share it with multiple business in the shopping center. I did street parking around the shopping center.

Overall.
I would visit again!
This wouldn’t be my go to spot for dosa/idly. But the food felt healthy, not too salty/spicy or oily which is always a plus. I looked at my neighbor and the Thali looks amazing.

This Valentine’s Day, while everyone was busy celebrating with their girlfriends, we were happily enjoying with our friends — and honestly, it was just as special! We ordered the Valentine’s Special Thali as a takeout from Kovai Cafe, and it made our celebration perfect.

The food was beautifully packed, colorful, and full of flavor. We especially loved the Millets papad, the special pasta, and the cabbage dish — everything tasted amazing. Even at home, it felt like a proper festive celebration.

We’ve ordered from here many times, and it never disappoints. Maybe next Valentine’s we’ll come with girlfriends… but until then, great friends and great vegetarian food from Kovai Cafe are more than enough!
THANK YOU KOVAI CAFE ❤️

Sai at the front was super helpful and made the whole experience! Stopped here on a rainy morning drive down 280 and SO glad I did. Rainy day + this mini combo breakfast = perfect pairing ️. Crispy dosa, vada, pongal + like 6 chutneys all on one tray — colorful, flavorful, every one of them different . Sambar was legit, and filter coffee in the steel tumbler on a rainy day? That’s a whole different experience ☕ . Very old school Tamil Nadu vibes. Mention this review to Sai for extra smiles!

Really popular vegetarian South Indian spot, with folks waiting for a table outside, that felt like a bustling casual cafe. We didn’t try the kids menu items but the rest of the menu was largely mild or medium spicy. Our kids largely munched on uthappam or the plain dosa with a touch of chutney. The fried Baby corn 65 appetizer was really good, like baby corn French fries with better flavor!

Kovai Cafe in Cupertino, USA, truly feels like a piece of India away from home. The food is filled with warmth, comfort, and authentic Indian flavors that instantly bring back memories of home. A very special thanks to Chef Karthik, his cooking is not just food, it’s an experience. Every bite reflects passion, care, and a deep understanding of Indian cuisine. In a place like the USA, finding food that touches the heart like this is rare. Kovai Cafe does exactly that. Immensely grateful to Chef Karthik for serving food that satisfies not just the stomach, but the soul. Highly recommended for anyone missing real Indian food.

One of the best South Indian restaurants in town consistently. Love the Masala Dosa, Rice dishes like Sambar rice, thali, biryani, uttapa, vada. Their service is so amazing too. Exceptional actually as they are so cheerful and friendly even when they are so busy. The lead attendant there from Goa is just awesome person. Name not revealed for confidentiality.

I like their food, esp sambhar. Chutneys can be too spicy sometimes.

Rava kichdi is my favorite item to get. Filter coffee is good as well.

They also pack well for to-go which I appreciate because there is a lot of liquid and if not done well it would ruin car.

Overall quick to get order for pick up, dine in also can be quick once you have seated. It can sometimes take long time to get a table.

Kovai Cafe delivers authentic Tamil-inspired comfort food done right. The idli with sambar and rasam were excellent, full of traditional flavors, and the rava dosa stood out as well, crisp and perfectly made. Add to that exceptional service, and it becomes a place you’d happily return to for a satisfying South Indian meal.
