Kousa (交差) means intersection or crossroads in Japanese, the place where paths meet, travelers converge, and different journeys become one shared moment. Kousa House is that intersection: a meeting place where culinary traditions from around the world finally get to share the same table.

I traveled from Dallas to Austin specifically for this restaurant, because I was expecting to be served by Chef Endo himself. As someone who has traveled to Japan three times and Hawaii three times, and who has extensive experience with authentic Japanese omakase, my expectations were based on genuine familiarity with high-quality sushi, not hype.
However, upon arrival, we were never informed in advance that Chef Endo would be absent. Instead, the meal was handled by his sous chef, without any explanation, apology, or compensation. This alone felt highly unprofessional and disrespectful to guests who booked specifically for the head chef.
Unfortunately, the execution confirmed that this substitution mattered:
The tempura was excessively salty, to the point where it felt as if salt had been accidentally poured in — completely unbalanced and unpleasant.
Several pieces of nigiri rice were undercooked, with a hard center that should never appear in proper sushi rice.
One of the kitchen staff was wearing a bracelet while preparing food. This raises serious hygiene concerns — is this acceptable in a sushi bar?
The substitute chef spoke far too much, disrupting the pacing of the meal. Sushi portions are small by nature, yet after finishing each piece, we had to wait an unusually long time for the next one while he chatted and showed off to other guests. A 16-course omakase took over three hours, which is simply unreasonable.
The service was inattentive — water was not refilled unless we asked, which should never happen at this price point.
The dessert was shockingly careless. For a meal costing around $100 per person, using what tasted like store-bought whipped cream was unacceptable. The final donut dessert felt lazy — shouldn’t this be paired with something like Hokkaido milk ice cream at the very least?
Overall, this was one of the worst omakase experiences I’ve had in recent memory, especially considering the price and reputation. If the head chef is absent, guests deserve to be informed ahead of time — and the food and service should still meet the standard that the restaurant claims to represent.
This experience fell far short of that standard.
The chef is very friendly and really had a great time with each and every piece of Sushi that was provided. The bartender was able to make some really on point drinks including the Mescal Margarita which was very tasty. Is it the best Omakase sushi that you can get in the area? No. However, their attention to detail and friendliness definitely is something that you should give them a try.
I really like that they had us get our party together and seated in the waiting area to loosen us up a little bit of course with some drinks. Then seated us out the counter where we were served our Sushi.
I would definitely recommend going here just for the experience and service. I’m so lucky to have such a variety of places to go for sushi that it takes a lot for places to stand out.
Would recommend this omakase to any sushi lover!
The ambiance of the restaurant is simply stunning—elegant yet comfortable, with a great vibe that perfectly balances sophistication and fun. The service was impeccable, with staff who were both attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home.
The highlight of the night was the chef, who not only prepared our meal with exceptional skill but also engaged with us throughout, sharing stories and even playing the electric guitar at one point! It was such a unique and enjoyable touch that added to the overall relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Endo is far from stuffy or pretentious; it’s a place where you can enjoy top-notch cuisine in a laid-back, vibrant setting. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate. Highly recommend!
