Yes, it is worth the walk at -9 °F to Koon Thai Restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Panang Curry at a level 3 (out of 5) “spicy” – and it is so delicious! It was prepared very fast, so I was back to the hotel in no time. It is not oily, it has plenty of veggies and meat, and it comes with rice.

The food was really amazing here, with an extensive menu and plenty if vegetarian options. I ordered the pad see ew with tofu and the portion was huge with lots of tofu. The star of the show was the thai tea, really sweet but that’s how I like it. Everything was well-priced and affordable. The AC wasn’t working when I went but it wasn’t unbearable.

Came here expecting good food. I was not disappointed. Food was awesome and there was a large selection. Menu was clearly labeled too. The atmosphere was quiet. Crab rangoons were awesome and looked homemade. Fried rice was delicious. The service could have been a bit faster but overall a good experience. Don’t hesitate to try this place!

We came in on Friday night a few minutes before 6 to grab dinner right before a musical at the Shubert Theater at 7. Noone is there to even assign a table for us. Then the lady who cooks gets out of the kitchen. “Just pick a table” she says. So we did. Quick look at the menu. Order placed. Then we waited…and waited….and waited….wand waited….and waited….and waited…time is 6:30. My wife “listen we should talk to them…we need to be at 7:00 at the theater…” so I went to the guy who took our orders “listen man..its already 6:30…we kinda in a rush..why does it take so long to get a. Appetizer to a two person table…especially when the restaurant is not full?”…”yes yes, I’m sorry its coming right out” He replied. The Appetizer indeed came out a few minutes after. “The entree portion coming right out” he promised. We both enjoyed the appetizer but then we did. Quick look at the menu. Order placed. Then we waited…and waited….and waited….wand waited….and waited….and waited…time is 6:45. My wife “listen we should talk to them…we need to be at 7:00 at the theater…” so I went to the guy who took our orders. Then I was already quite hungry and upset..its needless to say the food came out 2 minutes later….it was way too hot to start eating right away…at this piont we had to ask for boxes and left hungry with the food packed up as we didn’t had the time to eat. If you choose to go to this restaurant get ready to wait. A lot. And one more thing, they saw that we are two unsatisfied customers throughout the whole time we were sitting there. No, that we asked for it but they had number of opportunities to offer us some sort of makeup for our poor dining experience, it could be a drink while we were waiting, could be a free appetizer or discounted food or even just to come up to our table and guarantee us that the food is being prepared and will be soon on our table. Regardless, they chose to do nothing in the matter and the best option they saw is just to leave us hanging on an empty table for 45 minutes. Show you exactly how much they care about their clients…

Went for lunch, ate the Pad Thai with chicken and the special 3 curries with chicken. Both were excellent. The only problem is finding parking and not paying too much.

There wasn’t a wait when I walked in and service was beyond quicker that I expected. The coconut shrimp appetizer was absolutely delicious and the main course of Pad Thai I had was very filling. You can share a main course with someone which is what I did and still have leftovers. The food is very delicious and very affordable compared to other Asian eateries that I was nearby.

I had ordered from Koon Thai in the past for pick-up, but my dine-in experience had much to be desired.

My party was one of the first to enter the restaurant, but waited half an hour to receive our appetizers. After more people entered, we waited more than an hour for the entrees. Our waiter, as nice as he was, constantly reassured us that the food was on its way. By now, we had stayed the longest but were served last out of everyone.

When the food arrived, it seemed “okay”, and in some parts, undercooked and underflavored.

The quality was entirely different from when I ordered for pick-up in the past. The waiter was very nice and receptive, but the restaurant seemed understaffed by the looks of it.

I came here to eat lunch with a friend because we read great reviews about how amazing and authentic the food here is. However, we left here feeling disappointed.

Lets start with the positives. The decor was nice and the papaya salad was good. It was citrusy, fresh, crisp, and had the makings of a tasty salad. I didn’t expect there to be romaine lettuce on there, but I’m guessing this is the Americanized rendition. I would have loved to see dried shrimp on the salad because that would have added another layer of crunch and saltiness that would have complemented well with the acidity of the dish.

Let’s move on to the mains. My friend and I both got the curries. I got a “special House curry”. I appreciate the amount of vegetables they had on the dish, and it was cooked thoroughly. The curry itself, however, was a tragedy beyond belief. It was watery, lacking in flavor and spices, and was just not an enjoyable meal to eat. Thai curries are typically rich, decadent, and a bit creamy, and this dish did not properly represent those profiles.

The server was also a bit cold to us, which did not help enhance our dining experience.

Would I recommend that you eat here? Absolutely not. There are plenty of other Thai restaurants in downtown New Haven that provide better food and hospitality. Frankly, the food served here is an insult to Thai cuisine.

In town for the school’s family weekend. We waited a little for our table as we had 7 people in our party and didn’t call for a reservation on a Friday night. Not too bad on the wait.

Food: very decent food. We ordered yellow curry with pork, red curry with beef, and pineapple fried rice with shrimp, and Thai ice tea. The beef is a bit over cooked but the rest of the food was delicious. The fried rice is my favorite. It has curry mixed in with the fried rice and gave a good flavor. The spicy level of the curry was just perfect for me. We ordered an extra serving of rice to go with the curry.

We left the restaurant satisfied with full stomached, and there was a line waiting for tables.
