Came here years ago and this spot still retained the nice atmosphere. Enjoyed seeing local residents visit and recommend reserving just in case. They have an updated menu based on their specials which always a nice touch.
I took away a few food stars since the food quality/quantity was a bit lacking from what I remembered. Also, my sushi order sat there on the side for a bit until it was brought to the table and it wasn’t as fresh or they just used bad seaweed. If you want fresh sushi, I recommend reserving a seat at the sushi bar.

Perfection! Super ecstatic that we discovered this gem in Astoria. The quality of the food here is exceptional and the prices are decent for what you’re receiving. The chef is Japanese, as well as the staff, so expect the food to be authentic and everything from hygiene to service to be top-notch! We sat at the bar with Chef Kondo directly before us, preparing our dishes. He was all smiles and extremely friendly, glancing occasionally to check on customers. When I reached the deep fried prawn head rested on the side of my sashimi platter, he advised me to break it in half first. I really needed some tips because the spikes from the head seriously would’ve caused me some injury. Besides the sashimi, we also ordered the octopus carpaccio, uni, fatty tuna roll, salmon avocado and eel avocado rolls (mad rolls) and everything was impeccably made. Do yourself a favor and eat here!

One of the best, authentic Japanese restaurants in the area. Food is fresh and seasonal!
Great for sushi/sashimi as well as cooked Japanese food.
Loved the mini-omakase option to try 3 pieces. Wonderful service and a variety of sake options.

All Good Things with Kondo
Paid a visit with my Japanese friend and his baby. Honestly, I had passed by Kondo many times, but it always seemed to be closed. So here I am.
We ordered two lunch sets, and everything was great. However, I felt the Sashimi & Udon set was more valuable and tastier than the Beef set. (Yes, I ordered the Beef set, and you know, the neighbor’s yard is always greener, lol.)
Dining at Kondo was a pleasant experience—good food, reasonable prices, and attentive service.

Amazing food. To be honest, I am not the type of person who eats raw food but this restaurant still keeps me hanging out with my friends, most of them like to eat raw fish. Here at Kondo provide you with a variety of cooked food. The restaurant is decorated minimal style which is nice and the services are nice.

Authentic Japanese eatery run by Japanese chef, Mr. Kondo. Offers many Japanese small dishes along with Sushi and Sashimi. If you near in Astoria and crave for Japanese, I recommend Kondo.

An elevated sushi restaurant with very attentive waitstaff. Great spot to go with friends and split the sushi or sashimi platters. The spicy tuna roll at Kondo is hands down my favorite and although it might be off menu, ask for the fish collar with ponzu sauce which is simple and delicious.

Went to Kondo today and sat outside for a nice dinner. The staff was pleasant and was quick to bring out our food and refill our water.
The food was all fresh and tasty. Had a mix of things, tempura, sushi, scallops, and more.
Everything was prepared very well and really hit the spot. There wasn’t anything to detract from the meal save for a few errant passing motorcycles.
A very good place to go for Japanese cuisine.
